Stoneware water jar or mizusashi as used in the tea ceremony with round bottom developing into a diamond shaped edge. Greyish smooth stoneware, decorated with horizontal grooves, covered with brown iridescent glaze on the outside and with a mottled greenish-yellow glaze on the inside, dripping over the outside edge and down. Black lacquered, diamond-shaped coved. Takatori style, Japan, early Showa era, circa 1930-1950s.

Two Japanese pottery yunomi. One cylindrical with a warm terra cotta colored glaze with white dripping on a coarse, light buff body burnt to an earthy orange where the bottom meets the glaze - the ring foot notched beside an impressed, three character artist's mark. Height 3 3/16 inches (8.1 cm), Diameter 2 3/8 inches (6.03 cm)...

A well potted Kuro Raku Chawan Black Raku Tea Bowl. The bowl is hand shaped, covered in black glaze with a few small areas in which the cream colour clay shows through. It rest very well in the hands! Raku mark impressed to the bottom. H 8 x 12 cm. Perfect condition.

Antique Japanese Satsuma Tea or Tobacco Humidor Ginger Jar probably early 20th c signed on jar rim and interior of lid. Great condition no chips but some age staining on the top of the lid. Size h 5" w 4"

A fine porcelain Japanese Koyto tea cup with a Japanese macaque or snow monkey. Dated 1956 and signed “Chikusen”, we are attributing it to Chikusen Miura III, 1901-1990. Measures 2.75 inches.

This lovely Bizen ware is called Kogo / incense container used for Japanese tea ceremony. The shape is a seed of wisteria suitable for tea ceremony in autumn / winter. This is the work of a potter Yoshimoto Shuho. Shuho was born in 1938 in Okayama prefecture and studied pottery under Fujita Yoshiro. After Shuho became independent, he first produced Bizen ware for 10 years...

Japanese hand Hammered Copper Tetsubin, Tea Kettle, Tea Pot, signed, 1930's, 11" high include handle up, 9" wide include spout, with etched design of Butterfly and Lotus flower inside the fan shape Cartouche, spout has closed hinged top to keep hot tea or hot water warm for longer period of time. Handle can be placed down and up, slight dents shows on the both sides.

Japanese Black Raku Pottery Tea Bowl or Chawan, Ca. 1980, with impressed mark "Raku" near the bottom rim, 2 7/8" high, 4 3/8" diameter-top rim. The condition is good.

Lovely Seto ware chaire (tea caddy) made by Japanese Seto ceramist Kato Bakutai (1861-1943).
The mark of the artist is stamped at the bottom.

Kato Bakutai was a prominent potter who initially worked under Kato Shuntai (1802-1877) being responsible for revival of Seto ware techniques in Japan in the 19th century...

Ceramic chawan (tea bowl) for tea ceremony with multifaceted outside and enso circle shape foot. Unusual piece made in marbled technique with resulting surface perfectly imitating twisted patterns of a burl wood. This porcelain tea cup & Saucer was produced in Japan by Noritake in the early 1900s. The “Kormoru” mark was registered in London in 1908. Items with this mark were made especially for the English market and were of superb quality. The saucer is 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The cup is 2 inches high with a diameter of 3 5/8 inches. The cup has a puffy, blown-out shape and an elegant handle. The saucer has a scalloped rim...

Japanese Karatsu Tea Bowl, Chawan, 2 7/8" high, 5" diameter-top rim, with thick and rustic multiple layers of slip glaze. Purchased in Karatsu in Kyushu by Washington D C collector. The condition is good, no damages.

Small covered box in the shape of a clam shell. Cream-colored stoneware with translucent brown glaze, partially covered with opaque beige-colored glaze with blue and purple streaks. Bottom left unglazed. Takatori style. Japan, first half 20th century.

Vintage Japanese wooden kogo (box for incense during tea ceremony), its cover carved in a shape of the Zen Patriarch Daruma wearing a monk’s cape, and with gold lacquer on the inside. Beautiful dense fruitwood, carving is done in ittobori (one cut) style characteristic for the Hida school of carvers. Wonderful face, in excellent condition. Signed KAZUICHI SAKU (made by Kazuichi) on the bottom. Diameter 2.1 inches, height 1.5 inches. Part of a small East Coast kogo collection.

A fine Japanese lid rest or futaoki as it is known in the tea ceremony. The lid rest is done in a technique known as karakane or bronze and has been hammered. The tachizuru or motif of standing cranes is often seen in various tea accessories representing the rise of auspiciousness. The lid rest comes with a tomobako with the name of the lid rest and the artist, Seishu. Age: Late Showa Period Size: diameter 2.1" height 2.1"

Japanese miniature black Raku Tea Bowl or Chawan in signed wooden box, Ca. 1980, the tea bowl measures 1 3/8" high, 2 1/8" diameter-top rim, impressed mark "Raku near the bottom and also top and inside the box, enclosed the paper information of the area of the kiln and how they made. Kiln crack on the white clay area where the impressed mark is located, but not on the black glaze inside the bowl.
