Very well crafted dish enameled with a Japanese cherry blossom tree, with two brass handles, with marks to the base, late 19th century period. Approx. 11 1/2 by 7 5/8 in., 29.3 by 19.5 cm. No imperfections observed.

This an excellent hand-carved contemporary netsuke of a standing Hotei carrying his bag over his right shoulder. In his left hand he holds a Ruyi Scepter. Signed Shodo on a rectangular reserve on the bottom of the netsuke. SHODO, the Go name of Hiroshi Asaoka, born in Tokyo in the year 1923 was a master of intricate detailed carvings, and quiet, serene designs, who studied under Shomin. Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga woodblock print by Tadashi Nakayama (1927 - 2014) titled “Flowers and Riding Horse” (Hana to Kiba) dated 1968. The bottom margin contains, in pencil, the date, artist’s signature and edition number 49/85. The paper measures 20 3/8”V x 15 3/4”H (Image: 14 1/2"V x 11"H). A red Nakayama seal is on the back. This is a fairly large set of “hayashi” doll, court music entertainers, all dressed in samurai’s attire with a sword. Three seated dolls in the front row are approx. 5 1/2” (14 1/2 cm) tall x 9 1/2” (23-23.5 cm) wide, excluding hat and stand. The taiko drummer is 11 1/4” (29cm) wide, a little bigger. Two in back row, seated on stools, are 7 1/2” (19cm) tall x 9 3/4” (25cm) wide. The stands are lacquered wood.

DESCRIPTION: A handsome Japanese hibachi, crafted from a section of kiri wood (paulownia wood) with rounded body and lacquer floral designs. Inside is the original copper liner where coals would be placed for heating or keeping a tea pot warm. Two large peony blossoms are lacquered in gold and orange on the front, with smaller leafed branches on the reverse. Paulownia wood is very light, fine-grained, and warp-resistant, and is often used in Japan for chests and boxes...

Japanese vintage kimono made of navy blue silk with embroidery of chrysanthemums on long vines down the front, and branches with cherry blossoms on the sleeves. The backside has a large, beautiful bunch of embroidered chrysanthemums and cherry blossoms cascading down with two small birds in flight.
