Old mask with a thick shiny black soot patina, the originality of the sculpture is based on an arrangement of rectangular shapes which fit into each other. We note 3 horizontal carved lines and a Shivaite trident crossing the forehead to represent the tika, Old traces of vermilion pigment on the forehead and old traces of glue which retain some hairs around the mouth, the ears are small and in relief on each sides of the mask. A pair of boro tabi (socks) made of indigo dye cotton and thick cotton cloth for soles. It has fine sashiko for reinforcement on insteps. Metal claps are lost in one of the pair. The first half of the 20th century. W:10cm, L:21.5cm
Vintage clear cloisonné lidded box, employing the plique-a-jour technique, lovely muted pastel colors with a “pierced” lid, most likely meant to be a potpourri to put scented herbs and flower petals in. This is a complicated and time consuming craft- please note that the bottom is cloisonné as well as having some curvature to the lid - it would have been much easier just to give it a copper bottom and making the lid flat...
A fine tea bowl in Gohon Hagi glaze decorated with the characters Haku-un (White Cloud) by Shimizu Hian enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 12 cm (4-3/4 inches) diameter8 cm (just more than 3 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Shimizu Hian (1883-1975) was a popular poet and painter of the early modern period. He graduated law studies from the prestigious Kyoto University, and took a position in Kobe District Court...
3 robed figures appear decidedly relaxed on the edge of a rock-strewn river lost in dark mountains. Above a poem reads:
Furusato ha Arukiteyukeru Tokoro ni-te, Yama ari, Mizu ari, kataru yuujin ari (Walking through my home(town) I find mountains, water and friends for conversation).

A very rare Mashiko platter by Living National Treasure Hamada Shoji decorated with a poem cradled in an offset ring forming the mika-tsuki or third day moon by poet Shimizu Hian. The poem reads: Akaki Mi no Omoto no Hotori Dainaru Maruki kono yo no ishi okitari, and is signed by the 76 year old man Hian meaning it was made either in 1958 or 59 (depending upon whether Hian was going by the Western or Japanese manner of counting age)...
Milo Boughman black leather sofa with Brazilian book matched rosewood. Milo Boughman (1923-2003) born in Goodland, Kansas, was a pioneer in modern design and one of the leading modern furniture designers of the second half of the 20th century.

He was a self taught master woodworker and furniture maker with pieces in the collections of the Smithsonian Institute, The Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York.

The artist's red seal is at the lower right with the pencil-signature below. Paper: 15 3/8" x 10 1/4" (image: 14 1/2" x 9 1/2"). Very good overall condition with slight waviness to the paper.
