A nicely shaped glass ewer from ancient Rome. The piece was made with sheets of molten glass placed one on top of each other. This process was used at an early period in Rome. Age: First century. Bought at antique shop on Ponte Vecchio in Florence Italy 25 years ago. Size: H. 10.5cm W. 9cm

A Japanese sword "menuki" of 3 sparrows that was converted into an obidome during the Taisho period. The bronze color of the metal gives a naturalistic brown coloration to the birds--their beaks, eyes and feet are highlighted in gold. The fitted back is in 9 karat gold. Age: Menuki 18th century.

Rare and endearing figure of a young boy disciple of Quanyin (the Goddess of Compassion) wearing a garment etched with a lotus flower - the symbol of Buddhism. He is often depicted near Quanyin with his hands in reverential prayer. The bronze is heavily cast and has wires imbedded underneath the pedestal, perhaps for attaching to a group of figures. A elegant lacquerware for monastery use. Made in Kyaukka, in the lower Chindwin District in Burma, made from woven matting and coiled bamboo and lacquered in black and red. This piece has seven sections. These original Kyaukka pieces are difficult to come by. Size: H. 38cm. W. 40cm. Condition: All original. Some minor chips and one small piece re-glued on. See photo.

An unusual round paitong brass ink container with a floral design from the Ming period. Inside there are still remains of old dried out black ink. Signed on the underside, probably the maker. Size: Diameter. 7.8cm. H. 2.8cm. Condition: No repairs some wear from centuries of use.

)Rare Pottery water dropper (scholar's object) in the form of a three-legged frog. The frog has a sansai glaze of a basic straw-colored glaze with drippings of yellow and green glazes. This water dropper was made with a hole in its back for placing the thumb to regulate the flow of water from its mouth. In Chinese mythology the three-legged frog usually lives on the moon and brings good fortune.

A rare Ming wooden statue of the Daoist God of War, seated with one foot on a turtle, for immortality,and one on a snake, for supernatural power. The back has a little cut out area for relics and a handle for holding it for display. Size: H.32cm. W. 15cm. Condition: Most of the paint still remains, some flaking. There is a little piece missing from the right side of the ornament on his shoulder

A Rare Han Dynasty large oval glass bead in shades of very pale blue to dark sky blue. Most of the front side of the bead has developed an intriguing beige patina. There are bi-toned (dark green & light blue) curvey line designs which are imbedded in the glass surface. The light blue line is now iridescent with age. The bead has two holes in the center for stringing.

A nice lacquer screen mirror used by Scholars in their work tables. The mirror is surrounded by the usual key fret design while the base is carved with the auspicious melon, peony and peach, representing longevity and prosperity. The rare Gold Buddha is know as Bhumisparsa, the mudra of witness (earth touching). The hand with the palm turned inward and all the fingers extended downward touching the singhasana (pedestal supported by a lion) The gesture of touching the earth or calling the earth to witness commemorating Buddha's victory over temptation by the demon Mara. An ancient carnelian necklace found in Southeast Asia. Many of these carnelian beads were traded around 3000 years ago in mainland Southeast Asia. This necklace was found intact and restrung. Wearable.Size: L. 60cm. or 24 inches end to end.

A seated figure covering his eyes with both hands used in Tantric Buddhism believed to provide supernatural powers. and is a doctrine of enlightenment as the realization of the oneness of one's self and the visible world; combines elements of Hinduism and paganism including magical and mystical elements like mantras and mudras and erotic rites; especially influential in Tibet. An unusual Tang pottery of a standing dwarf wearing a robe and hat painted in original orange pigments. He has a stocky figure and a sweet countenance on his downward tilt head. He is full of character. Figures such as these are considered a symbol of good luck and are not easy to find.

Two ancient bronze "coins" shaped like small bowed knives. Both have encrustation on the bronze of varied coloration including that of a a blue-green malachite color from long burial. Period: Shang Dynasty (1600-1028 BC) Sizes: One is 14.5 cm long. The other is 17.7 cm long. Condition: The coins have natural wear and small chips to their rims and encrustation due to age. Nice patina. Would make an interesting addition to any coin collection.

An unusual-shaped Kutani vase with panels of birds and landscapes on a background scrolling tendrils surrounded by a thickly applied blue-green glaze. All symbols (phoenixes, birds, chrysanthemums, etc.) are symbols of good luck, strength, and prosperity. The stamp on the bottom is a "Fuku" character which means wealth and good luck. Age: 1900 or earlier. Size: H. 16cm. W. 12cm. Condition: No repairs, chips, or breaks.
