A vintage Chinese bronze Buddhist Bodhisattva in a serene pose holding an object in his hands. He is incised with scrolls and good luck symbols, crowned and bejeweled, sitting atop a lotus encircled base. The large size makes an imposing presence and companion.
Condition is generally good though tarnish, patina losses, and small damage exists at the back of the sculpture where it meets the base from which the sculpture is separate...

This fine bronze of a young lady is an Art Nouveau gem by celebrated French sculptor Henri Godet (1863-1937) who exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais between 1886 - 1913.

The panache, verve, and energy of this striking wood carving of a Spanish conquistador is remarkable for its dynamism and expressiveness. The figure is hand enameled in traditional conquistador costume, wearing buccaneer shoes, pantaloons, coat, and plumed helmet, and dagger on his belt. The figure is in action stance, but it is clear that he is missing his original instruments of perhaps sword and shield...

It is quite appropriate that a French sculptor created this bronze of Cinderella, for after all it was a French author who gave us the modern version of the beloved fairy tale of the young woman who went from riches to rags to riches with the help of a fairy godmother.
She is seated somewhat forlornly holding a spindle of yarn, but it is the two objects behind her feet which give away the story...

Originally conceived as part of a figural group for a larger commission, Charity depicts the doting love of a mother for her two children. Paul Dubois ( 1829 - 1905 ) originally exhibited it at the Salon of 1877. The famed Barbedienne foundry reproduced smaller versions for interior decoration. This particular version is 18", signed Paul Dubois, and stamped with the Foundry mark.
Condition is very good with slight wear of patina to high points such as knee and nose...
