Papier maché and mother of pearl plaque depicting the romantic ruins of medieval Llanthony Priory in Wales. Probably part of a Victorian portrait case and made by Jennens & Bettridge around 1840. Jennens (sometimes Jennings) and Bettridge, originally based in Birmingham, were famous for their beautiful papier maché products and had stores in New York and Paris as well. Cup and saucer with Kutani aka-e (red) decoration of musing philosophers or poets, the back of the saucer with orchids. Late Edo or Meiji, c 1900. Signed Kutani. Diameter or saucer "4 ¾ / 12 cm, height of cup "2¼/ 5,8 cm. Condition: wear to the decoration, esp. to the saucer (cf. pics).

Black-glazed English cup and saucer with floral decoration in raised enamels, Victorian, c 1850-70. The glaze is named after Jackfield, a town in Shropshire where pottery with a jet black shiny glaze first was produced in the 18th century. Black-glazed English small teapot with floral decoration in raised enamels, Victorian, c 1850-70. The glaze is named after Jackfield, a town in Shropshire where pottery with a jet black shiny glaze first was produced in the 18th century. No mark except for a brown S (painters mark?) to base. Height including lid "4/ 10 cm. Condition: chips to the inside of lid (cf. pics). A cup and saucer with very similar decoration is offered in another Global Ceramics listing (cf. the last picture).

Cut steel brooch, early Victorian, c 1850 or possibly somewhat earlier, with hand cut studs riveted to a brass plate. Some of the studs with as much as 21 facets. Cut steel jewelry were often used in the evening, to create a sparkling, diamond-like effect. Width "1 ½ / 4 cm, height "2 ½/ 6,5 cm. Condition: a few studs missing (cf pics).

Samson of Paris, 19th century: a large godrooned dish, hand painted in the style of Watteau with a courting couple in a pastoral landscape surrounded by flowers, Deutsche Blumen. Flat back with the gilt wheel mark for Höchst /Hoechst 1765-74. Diameter "10¼/ 26,3 cm. Condition: a chip to the rim (cf. pics).

Elegantly decorated vase with a geometric design of 24 facets. Meiji period, late 19th century. Sparsely painted with airy flower sprigs, leaving large parts of the cream-coloured crackle-glazed surface undecorated. The mouth rim with the mon (emblem) of the Itagaki (?) family. Impressed three character mark to the base and painted signature in red. Height "6¼ / 16 cm. Condition: fine.

Filigree comb, Spanish or French, c 1880, no marks, gilt metal, possibly silver gilt. Height c "4/ 10.5 cm, width "3 ½ / 8.5 cm. Condition: partial loss to one lily ornament (cf. pics).

A faux tortoise cigar case, inlaid with engraved bronze doré ornaments in the style and manner of Boulle. French, late 19th century. Width "5 ¾ / 14.5 cm. Condition: damage and antique repair (cf. pics).

Charles Baudelaire de face, etched portrait by Edouard Manet. The French poet was photographed by Félix Nadar in 1862 and the photo was the starting-point for Manet’s portrait. More than one version exists of the etching and this is number III. Signed in the plate Peint et Gravé par Manet 1865, and Imp. A. Salmon (printer´s name). On creme coloured wove paper, size of plate "3 ½ / 9.4 cm x "3 ¼ / 8.2 cm. The partly silvered frame measuring "7 / 18 cm x "7 / 18 cm. Condition: fine.

Blue and white bell-shaped inkwell of molded lotus leaf design. Japanese, Hirado Mikawachi, late 19th century. Height with lid "4 ¾ / 12 cm. Condition: chips to upper and lower rim, glass liner (not original) as seen in pics.

A gold vermeil / gilt brass bangle with engraved steel applications of acanthus leaves. Victorian (English) or possibly French, c 1850. To be opened and shut through two little knobs in a steel monogram. Inner circumference when shut "6 2/3 / 17 cm Condition: could do with some professional care, part of the application is missing (cf. pics), still beautiful.

Stick pin, lava and yellow metal, c 1900 or earlier. Oval shape and motive of a grape vine. Height "¾ / 2 cm. Condition: fine.

Victorian brooch or pin, a bunch of fruit an d flowers made up of Gutta Percha. This dark brown material, a predecessor of bakelite - was first introduced in the great Crystal Palace exhibition in 1851 and was often used in mourning jewelry pieces after the death of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, in 1861. Made from the sap of a Malayan tree. Width " 1 ½ / 4 cm. Condition: a leaf or two missing under the biggest fruit (cf. pics).
