A beautiful and well made scholar's screen made of blackwood and having the original marble insert. Most of the marble in early pieces have been replaced. The frame for the marble has a key fret design. The base has carvings of two peaches, representing longevity, and the peony for prosperity. Age: Early 19th century. Size: H. 64cm. W. 43.5cm. Condition: No repairs, all original, age crack on the marble, common for it's age.

A very unusual huanghuali scholar's container made of one solid piece of wood. There is no plug at the base. These types of designs are very desirable for collectors of huanghuali pieces. It probably had a lid. Age: 18th century. Size: H. 7cm. W. 11.7cm. Condition. No repairs. Some old minor chips on the rims.

A very large natural wood and carved scroll pot that has used the natural contours of the wood with some carvings to finish it. Scroll pots are not as common as brush pots. Age: Early 19th century. Size: H.28.8cm. W.35.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal wear.

A pair of mythical animals (mother and child) of a creamy jade color. It has small areas of natural brown, light orange and grey coloration and inclusions. The jade is beautifully carved and feels lovely to the touch. The curled tail of the smaller animal forms a round hole which enables a thin rope to be put through it. Absolutely endearing. Period: Early Ching (18th Century) Size: H = 1-3/4", W = 3-3/8"

A unique piece of zitan wood used as a sample for the scholar's woodworker. This piece is unusual as it shows a very light color of the zitan wood which is probably close to the bark area. There are two holes drilled in the piece for attaching a string for hanging. This piece weighs 550 grams. This is a great item for the zitan collector. Size: L.17.3cm. W.10.3cm. H.2.4cm. A well carved jade frog that can be used as a pendant. Actually is was worn on the belt.It has two holes under the chin that do not go all the through. It probably had some metal clip attached to it. The color is a little lighter then appears in the photos. Age: Early 19th or late 18th century. Size: L.5cm. W.3cm. Condition: no chips or repairs. Nice smooth finish from being fingered a lot.

A very rare Chinese Nanmu scholar's table chest. Nanmu wood has been used in China since the Han dynasty and is very prized by collectors as it is difficult to find. I feel that it is rarer than huanghuali. I have only come across one Nanmu scholar's chest in all the years that I have been collecting. Size: L.34cm. W.17cm. H.6cm. Age: Mid Qing or earlier. A translucent nephrite jade "bi" of a very light cream color (off-white). Both the front and reverse are beautifully carved with the same design of a variety of "curl" designs. Period: (17th- 18th Century) Size: Outer Diameter = 2-1/4" Condition: Perfect. Color in photo has a blue tone but it is actually white.

An unusual blackwood ruler inlaid with silver markings on one side. Age: Qing Dynasty. Early 19th century. Size: L.35cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal ageing and some minor dents.

A beautiful and rare blackwood vanity chest. This is an unique piece and very large and quite heavy. It has all the original brass fittings and many drawers. There are many copies of this piece and this is the only original one I have come by in all the years I have been collecting. Age: Early 19th century. Size: L. 35cm. W. 25.8cm. H. 21cm. A lacquered wood manuscript cover with the rectangular panel carved with scrolling foliate tendrils with a carved vase in the center. Age: 18th Century. Size: L. 37cm. H.14cm. Condition: Normal ageing with and old chip on the left edge and age crack on the right side.

A white jade covered entirely by Han style dragons creating an abstract design of swirls and curls. The jade has a hole on the wider end of stone making it usable as a pendant or a pocket jade. Period: Early Ching (18th Century) Size: H = 2-1/4", W = 1-1/4" Condition: No repairs or chips.

An very well carved erotic jade of two lovers with a floral patterned robe partially covering their bodies. The jade is translucent and of an even white color. The back of the hairdo of the male forms the hole for stringing. Period: Ching - Early 19th Century or late 18th century. Size: Height = 3.2 cm., Width = 3.4 cm

A huanghuali wood brush washer carved in the form of a frog resting on a lotus pad that gently curls around him, giving protection. Brush washers and brushpots were important implements for painting and calligraphy for Chinese scholars. They were used, not only for practical purposes, but also for enjoying their beauty.

Chinese white nephrite jade of reclining dog with tail curled over its left haunch. Has some inclusions natural to the stone. Period: Early Ching (18th Century) Size: H = 1/2", Length = 2-1/8"

An important thangka depicting the succession of Dalai Lamas to the large one in the center of that period. The central image is surrounded by a host of guardian deities, bodhisattvas, asparas and symbolic animal figures. Size: L. 97cm. W. 72.7 cm. Inside measurement. Condition: No repairs, rips or tears on the painting. Some fraying of the silk, framing the artwork.

An extremely rare pair of original 18th century elm wood lacquered folding chairs. All the parts are original including the original lacquer. Only replacements were the hardware in the folding joints as the originals had rusted out. The back panel has an open- work floral design with a cloud design on the upper and lower panels. A gold ornament which looks like to me to be a warrior carrying a club. It's hard to date this piece, but looking at the patina on the gold I would say around 16th century.Found in Burma but could be from India. Size: 3cm x 2.5cm. Condition: No repairs.Some opening which are normal in old gold repousse work.
