Joan Thorne is an important contemporary New York-based American artist who describes her art as "metaphysical abstraction"...

It measures 8.5" by 29" in its slender custom brass frame. It is signed Hennessy l.r and dated 75. It is also signed, dated (21 July 75), and titled "The Cave of Ali Baba" on the reverse. Hennessy is an abstract painter active in New York who has been a participant in the resurgence of Abstraction in the last few decades...

Original oil on canvas (36 1/2" by 28 1/2") by Maurice Esnault aka Joannes (French, 1854-1940). This painting appears to date from the 1920's. It is fully signed l.l. It also bears a gallery label from the famed Ferargil Gallery (a major early 20th Century New York gallery) which states the name of the artist and the fact that it came from the Rene Gimpel collection. It also bears 3 estate? labels, and a French customs stamp...

Overall measurements including the (probably original) frame: 24" by 28". Nathan Margolis is a well listed painter and lithographer from Philadelphia. He exhibited in a number of venues including the Art Institute of Chicago in 1936, and PAFA (in 1936, 1937, and 1958)...

Original oil on canvas by Dorothy Eaton (American/ 1893-1968), signed l.l. "Dorothy Eaton" and dated 1957 on the back. This painting measures 25" by 30". It is in excellent untouched original condition, and is offered in a newer gallery frame. Dorothy Eaton is very well listed, with auction records over ten thousand dollars. She studied at the ASL with Kenneth Hayes Miller. Some of her works are exhibited in the Smith College Museum of Art in Northampton, MA.

Original acrylic on panel by Arnold Mesches, measuring 11" by 23". This early work by Mesches (dated on the reverse 1959) retains its original frame and was purchased from the artist in 1960. Arnold Mesches is an extremely well-listed artist born in New York in 1923. He is known for having turned the files the FBI kept on him into works of "engage" art. He is well represented in museums around the country, among which the San Francisco Museum of Art, and the San Diego Museum of Art...

Original oil (50" x 40") by Bertha Ballou (American/ 1891-1978). Bertha Ballou studied at the ASL, the Boston School of Fine Art and in Florence. She settled in Spokane, WA. She is the daughter of Colonel C. Ballou, who was commandant at Fort George Wright in the 20's, and the painting is a portrait of Kitty, daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Marshall Candee, also of Fort George Wright (where the painting was purchased--at that time it was still Fort Wright College)...

Original oil on masonite (36 x 24)by Paul D. Natkin, contemporary artist from Seattle (solo exhibits at the Davidson Gallery, Pioneer Square). The painting is titled "...thinking distant thoughts..." and dates from 1998. It is one of the many representations the artist has created of a specific Seattle viewpoint which has fascinated him for many years.

Oil on canvas by David Day, dating from 1948. The painting is signed and dated L.R. and is in excellent condition. Contemporary Arts and Crafts gilt frame. David Day studied nude painting in the California studio of Lorser Feitelson in the fourties.
