A very nice blue and white Chinese export porcelain plate in the Fitzhugh pattern. The central reserve is surrounded by a complimentary design in the four quadrants, all enclosed in a diapered border. The blue color is very intense and the porcelain body has a good, clear white color. The execution of the painted design suggests that the plate dates from the first quarter of the 19th century.

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced at Meissen around 1800. It has the first quality under glaze blue crossed swords with a star under it. The saucer is 5 3/8 inches in diameter and is 1 1/4 inches deep. The cup is 2 3/4 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/2 inches. the ground color is cobalt blue. The cup has a reserve with a portrait of Abelard and the saucer has a portrait of Heloise...

Both with marks that are loosely painted in undergaze blue that more or less resemble the crossed torches that are the registered mark for the Locre factory, also known as La Courtille. A transfer printed, hand colored and gilt large mug with Japanese inspired patterns on two sides, an elaborate decoration on the inside rim and a brown edge at the top. Blue printed mark on the bottom. The body is hand thrown, but the handle is molded. Circa 1820. 4 5/8 (12 cm) tall 5 1/8 (13 cm) diameter body, with handle 7 inches (18 cm) diameter.

A pottery circular flask with the center of both sides decorated with a purple transfer of a man fishing in a river across from a church. The transfer surrounded by a brown/red raised band then hand painted purple flowers, green leaves, and red buds. The mouth with a beaded edge and neck decorated in the same red/brown. 7 3/8 inches from mouth to bottom, 6 ¾ inches across.

A very nicely painted Pratt Ware cottage decorated with a blue tiled roof, children at the windows with an oversize female standing beside it. On one end of the cottage is a woman with a cornucopia (?) and on the other a flowering tree. At the back in the roof is a slot for large pennies. The colors are well applied. As mentioned for other similar items on the site, this type ware is often mistakenly referred to as Leeds and featheredge. In reality, many factories other than Leeds made items of this nature, and the type edge here is more properly called a molded edge. This particular plate was made by Riley, and is indicated as such with an impressed mark on the back. Being able to identify the maker does increase the value to some extent...

In referring to certain types of pottery, "Leeds" and "featheredge" are both common misnomers. People think of certain types of Staffordshire pottery as being Leeds while in actuality only a small portion was made by that factory.

A molded roughly round stoneware small tureen with attached under tray, elaborate lid with finial and simple ladle. All transfer printed with blue floral sprays enhanced with overglaze enamels. The spoon with an additional transfer of water and a plant in the bowl. The lid and tureen with gilt highlights especially on the rams head cornucopia finial. Very nice Chinese export porcelain tea pot in Canton decoration. The slightly tapered drum-shaped body is decorated with typical Canton scenes of islands, bridges, boats, etc. and is accented with a raincloud border along the top edge. The lid, spout and handle are also decorated with typical motifs. The color is very nice with terrific clarity and depth. Likewise, the body is of nice color.

A pearlware child’s mug with the stencil inscription in blue on the front, “A Gift from the Pottery,” in a cut corner rectangle with a seaweed surround.
