This exquisite antique 17th-century European Baroque Crucifix is a true masterpiece of art. Statue of a traditional god, probably representing Kuan Ti or Kuan Yu, God of War, in formal garb, with a martial posture, sitting on a throne. Wood, with traces of the original gilding. Remnants of animal hair under nose and chin, to represent mustache and beard. At the back of the statue, the votive box is till closed. China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century. Height: 22.7 cm. Abrasion due to age, right arm partly missing, otherwise good condition.

Gilded Wooden Cupid Angels, Baroque, fine work, found in Burma, but with obvious European influence as Burma was a British colony at that time, mounted on gilt antique wooden base/stands. 19th Century, size of angel only: H. 33cm x W.29 cm x D. 21cm including wings (with base: 46x21x21 excluding wings), good condition considering age, some inconsequential aging and very rare, price shown is per angel, not the pair. DESCRIPTION: An engaging carved wood santo figure of a winged cherub, most likely carved in the Philippines. This figure, dating from the early 1900’s, is depicted with black hair, inset glass eyes and extended wings. CONDITION: Some age appropriate losses to original paint. A very early and attractive bronze travellers icon, made before the Ban on bronze travellers icon making by Peter the Great in 1722. This icon dates to the 16th.-17th. century.

Russian wooden egg, lacquered in black and painted. One side with an orthodox cross and the other probably depicting St Basil’s cathedral in the Kremlin in the late 19th century. It might also show the then newly erected cathedral of the Assumption in Omsk. Height "4 / 10.5 cm. Condition: the painted decoration is flaking, as is the black lacquer (cf. pics).

This marvelous piece of ancient pottery is an offering vessel, sometimes referred to as a "spirit jar", from roughly the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD) of Classic Imperial China. These intriguing vessels first appeared to Western collectors around the turn of the century and were quite a delightful find. Appearing in the ruins of a long forgotten monastery near Kunming, hundreds of these jars were discovered in several sites in Yunnan...
