Antique Pear Form Tea Caddy in fruitwood, turned in the form of a pear with iron escutcheon and stem. Often made in suite with an apple form tea caddy for your green and black teas. You want to see a curved lockplate as many fruit form string holders are being passed off as tea caddies. Probably German, Late 18th Century.

Rare English Regency Tea Chest in rosewood, of sarcophagus form with a paneled lid opening to a fitted interior retaining a pair of Anglo-Irish cut glass tea caddies and sugar bowl and original felt lining under the lid, circa 1830.
Cut crystal containers were very expensive at this time, almost as expensive as silver. It is very unusual for tea chests to retain their original crystal fittings.

When we say that these candelabra are "le fin de siecle" we are referring to more than their late 19th century manufacture. They are superb example of Baroque style lighting which befits a place begging for a fine appointment. Why are we using French to describe these Italian cast brass masterpieces which must surely be one of a kind?
The candelabra have an architectural solidity with the square feet supporting floral faced blocks which frame a flower and scrolling vine motif...

Federal Mahogany swell front chest of drawers. Yellow pine and poplar secondary woods. Maryland, probably Baltimore, 1790 to 1810. This chest is similar in ways to an example in "Furniture in Maryland, 1740-1940", Weidman, 1984, item #77, page 123. On both, the top conforms to the bow front case, projecting a bit beyond the case. And both have nicely formed French feet, inlaid banding on the drawers and above the skirt, and inlaid chevrons centering the escutcheons...
