Fine old Shan Burmese lacquer box, circa early 20th century with one tray and depicting monkeys playing in foliate background. This piece is a real classic beauty (IMHO). Beautiful little antique French hinged box with blue enameling and gold gilt over bronze. Featuring a miniature portrait that is surrounded by ornate reticulation which in turn is accented with glass faux rubies and faux lapis lazuli. The blue enamel ground in the portrait matches the darker blue surround trim. Velvet lined, this makes a perfect little box to protect that special piece of jewelry. An excellent example of French gilt, bronze doré work. This beautiful footed trinket box dates to around 1890-1910. The lid has a glass center and is surrounded by deep rose silk material and exquisite ormolu decoration. Inside is lined in a matching stripped floral silk.
