This is a Pre Columbian fragment of cotton cloth brocaded with anthropomorphic figure design in browns and creams,unframed and shrink wrapped; Condition-Good coloration having areas of staining and missing pieces throughout, some unraveling; Sheen in photo due to lighting. Measures 26 1/2 X 19 3/4 inches approx.

A Pre-Columbian Mayan Mushroom Stone, c. 600 AD. It's 6.5" tall and has stains on its edges from being gripped during intense ceremonies. It comes from a private Berkeley, California collection.

Although just a fragment, the imagery is outstanding in this substantial gray pottery piece. Molded and carved, it depicts two seated chieftains facing one another over a table (?) resting on a skull. The imagery is crisp and clear. The piece measures 6" X 2-5/8", while the image itself is 4" in width by 1-3/4". Dating to the 5th - 8th century AD.

This is a Mezcala reclining figure made from a hard stone. This is a rare pose. It dates to 500C. It is 3" tall. It is from Guerrero, Mexico. I purchased it from Michael Robbins in 1989.

This limestone cement image of Quetzalcoatl was found by the famous Dr. Allen Heflin in September of 1954 and is so inscribed on the bottom. It still has its original obsidian eyes. It is 4" long. It is badly weathered, but the features are easily recognizable although the camera did not pick them up fully. It dates to 100BC-200AD. This is an extremely rare piece. I have not seen another.

Pair of pottery fragments including a head with torso from the La Tolita culture, c. 200 BC-300 AD. and a very interesting head, that wears a mask that looks like a divers mask or an astronauts mask. Closely fitted over the eyes and nose. Peculiar!

This extremely rare Olmec deformed fetus is described in the book “The Olmec World Ritual and Rulership”. A very similar one is pictured on page 55. Carolyn E. Tate from Texas Tech University, who wrote this chapter, stated only 18 such figurines were known to her. It is 1 1/2" long and made from the highest quality Olmec blue translucent jadeite. This piece has good microscopic evidence of contact with the soil including staining and mineral deposits...

This Mayan alabaster poison bottle dates to the Classic Mayan period C300AD-600AD. It is 2 3/4" x 1 3/4". and has no repairs or restoration. It was found in Peten, Guatemala. It is from the well known Willard Leutze collection.

Lot conisists of two large celts or axes, a drop-shape piece in grey stone, lightly rough and a triangular axe in green stone, finely polished, 1st. millenium BC.

Sizes: The grey axe 14,5 cm., the green one 12,7 cm.

This extraordinarily rare Olmec Quartz dagger or possible bloodletter was found together with the above jade dagger. It was made from a long quartz crystal of gem quality with no inclusions and ground to shape. This piece is 5 1/2" long. This Olmec artifact is of the finest workmanship and material. The effigy is in a classic Olmec pose. The artifact was in four pieces and glued back together perfectly under a microscope by Dennis Bushey. This beautiful Olmec mask is made from semi-translucent jade. It is 3" X 3 1/2". Very deeply defined features. I purchased it from Michael Robbins of Santa Fe in 1989. It has high polish. A very nice authentic piece at a low price.

This Olmec maskette is from Veracruz, Mexico. It dates to 1200-900BC. It measures 2" wide by 1 1/4" high by 1/2" deep. It depicts the classic were-jaguar with forehead cleft, almond shaped eyes, broad nose, mouth showing gums and teeth and a scrolled design that encircles the sides of the face. The top of the forehead is biconically drilled for suspension in a design that is reminiscent of the Costa Rican agate bat wing pendants from the same time period...

This Olmec "spoon" is 1 1/4" X 3/4" and is made from translucent fuchsite. It is generally accepted that these served as trays from which shamans inhaled hallucinogenic snuff. This piece is from the famous Keith Finello collection and dates to C900-600BC.

This is a pre-Columbian ceramic head, Preclassic, C-200BC-200AD. It is from Guatemala. It is hollow blackware. The head has a beard and open penetrating eyes and top-knot. It is 2 5/8" long. It is Ex. Leutze collection.

A well-modeled figure measuring 8 inches in height. The figure is shown kneeling, with a cape or cloak draped over the left arm, the right hand resting on a knee. A twisted turban sits on the figures head, and prominent "ear-flares" are present. Intact, with losses and abrasions to the surface.

This is an extremely rare Olmec opaque blue jade perforator handle. It is 5 1/2" long. I purchased it from Michael Robbins in 1989. It appears to be a shaman in flight perhaps holding onto a transformational creature. The deep facial features, elongated head and deep cleft are classic. This one grabs hold of you and won't let go. Measuring 3" in height, this cast bronze ceremonial knife dates to the period from 700-1000AD, and is from the South Coast of Peru. The upper border consists of a serpent bodied creature with fanged heads at both ends, each wearing a spiked crown. Deeply incised deity heads appear in profile at the top of each side of the blade. The piece has acquired a beautiful blue-green patina. An intact suspension loop is visible at the top,as shown in the photos.

This Tunjo is 5 1/2" long. Tunjos are from the Musica culture, 900AD-1500AD. This culture inhabited the high plateau in the area of modern Bogota. Most Tunjos that survived are made from gold or tumbaga. Obviously, many were made from bone, but being an organic material, very few bone ones have survived. In fact, this is the only one I have ever seen. I have had several gold Tunjos and they are unique and beautiful and in much demand. Needless to say, bone Tunjos are extremely rare.

This is an extremely rare jade picture-plaque that dates to the Late Classic Period around 700 AD. In my 40 years of collecting, I have never seen one for sale. These plaques all belong to one school of carving known as Nebaj-type plaques because the first specimens to be found in situ in the Mayan area come from Cache 14, Mound 2, at Nebaj, Guatemala. This is a Mayan Jade sitting cross-legged pregnant woman. Depictions of women are rare. Pregnant women are even rarer. She is wearing a coiled snake headdress.
