Interesting and decorative fragment of a figural tile, Mexico, Aztecs, 1300 to 1521 AD.

The tile showing two warriors or deities fighting, one holding a dagger and both with elaborate headdresses.

Size: 26 x 19 cm. Thick.

Condition: Fragmentary, with most of the motif preserved, some corrosion to the front and more so on the back. Remnants of mortar or plaster.

Provenance: Collection of Gunna Munkvad, Denmark, aquired from the 1950s-1980s.

This is a very nice solid figure blowing into a conch shell. It is attributed to the Protoclassic Nayarit culture of West Mexico, C100BC-250AD. It has the original pigments that are much brighter than the photos show. It is a beautiful patinized orange and black. There is a chip off the right rear foot. This Olmec "spoon" is 1 1/4" X 3/4" and is made from translucent fuchsite. It is generally accepted that these served as trays from which shamans inhaled hallucinogenic snuff. This piece is from the famous Keith Finello collection and dates to C900-600BC.

This limestone cement image of Quetzalcoatl was found by the famous Dr. Allen Heflin in September of 1954 and is so inscribed on the bottom. It still has its original obsidian eyes. It is 4" long. It is badly weathered, but the features are easily recognizable although the camera did not pick them up fully. It dates to 100BC-200AD. This is an extremely rare piece. I have not seen another.

This is a pre-Columbian ceramic head, Preclassic, C-200BC-200AD. It is from Guatemala. It is hollow blackware. The head has a beard and open penetrating eyes and top-knot. It is 2 5/8" long. It is Ex. Leutze collection.

A seated figure of an emaciated male holding a tube above a small pot. The upper tip of the tube (or staff) is missing, an ancient loss. A minor chip to the end of the nose. Extensive deposits, as can be seen in the photos. The figure measures 9" in height. An expressive,authentic figure.

Although just a fragment, the imagery is outstanding in this substantial gray pottery piece. Molded and carved, it depicts two seated chieftains facing one another over a table (?) resting on a skull. The imagery is crisp and clear. The piece measures 6" X 2-5/8", while the image itself is 4" in width by 1-3/4". Dating to the 5th - 8th century AD.

Lot conisists of two large celts or axes, a drop-shape piece in grey stone, lightly rough and a triangular axe in green stone, finely polished, 1st. millenium BC.

Sizes: The grey axe 14,5 cm., the green one 12,7 cm.

Condition: Choice, a few minor chips, very nice patinas.

Provenance: From an important German collection of Hermann Hemeick. The collection of 71 stone objects was collected on trips to the Dominican Republic between 1960 and 1984...

A well-modeled figure measuring 8 inches in height. The figure is shown kneeling, with a cape or cloak draped over the left arm, the right hand resting on a knee. A twisted turban sits on the figures head, and prominent "ear-flares" are present. Intact, with losses and abrasions to the surface.

A really nice and quite scarce vessel shaped as a human figure with two smaller figures on either side, Late Chimü or early Incan, c. 13th.-14th. cent. AD.

Size: c. 17,5 cm. x 13 cm.

Condition: Good very fine and intact.

A large and attractive globular jar of blackware, Chimú c. 1200-1400 AD.

The vessel comes with a TL test from Ralf Kotallas lab.

A fine and accomplished Blackware vessel with the portrait head of a man, Precolumbian Peru, Late Moche or early Chimú, 7th.-9th. century AD.

Superbly detailed, made as a grinning man with his tungue between his teeth and wearing larger earrings and headdress, the spout of the vessel prodruding from the top of his head.

Size: 15,3 cm. tall.

Condition: Choice and intact, minor chips to the spout as is usual with these, but othervise perfect.

A beautiful large pottery food bowl, Pre-Columbian Moche culture, TL tested to be c. 2000 years old.

In orange ware with decorative red line at the rim.

Size c. 20 cm. in diameter.

Condition: Nice Very fine and intact. With some glue below the base from a previous mounting.

This nice dual image with monkey on top is made from albite. It is from Copan. It is 1" tall and is from the Keith Finello collection. It is drilled on the top for suspension. It dates to the Classic Mayan period C300-900AD.

This finely carved shell skull was found by the famous Dr. Allen Heflin on 9-16-61 in Cuautitlan, Mexico. This Aztec piece dates to 1200AD. It is drilled for suspension. A nice little ancient piece that could be used in jewelry. It is 1/2" long and solid.

This Classic Mayan mother-of-pearl figurine is 1 1/8" wide. It was found by Dr. Allen Heflin. Although I could not capture it in photos, it is nicely opalescent. It would make a very unusual jewelry finding. It is C300-900AD.

An ancient amuletic bead, carved in bone of a monkey, Pre-Columbian Andean region, c. 600-1200 AD.

Attractive and still wearable with loop at the back.

Condition: Extremely fine.
