Apulian black-glazed guttus of globular body with gently sloped shoulder, upright narrow neck and flared spout. The flared rim decorated with impressed rings.
The loop handle is attached on the shoulder, which is embellished with horizontal grooves.

Condition: Intact with smaller losses and much wear. Remnants of pigments still visible on the surface in recesses.

Ancient Egyptian Faience Bes Plaque
A nice dark green faience amulet with the head of the God Bes in a round open-worked plaque with a hole for suspending. Three feathers of his tiara, his eyebrows and the pupils with traces of black pigment...
Rare seated figure with writing tablets folded open on the lap. The writing right hand rests on the tablet, which is held with the other. The small face with a prominent nose, the eyes and the mouth indistinct and originally painted. Curls frame the forehead and braids fall along the neck.
The figure wears a skin-tight tunic that might have been originally painted. The edge of a cloak covers the lower chest...
With spherical body on short foot, the tubular neck with traces of engravings, the handle with beading and pomegranate thumb-rest, minor dents, hairline crack and a couple of small holes to body, but intact, overall patination to surface.
A substantial and interesting type of early Islamic vessel.

This is an interesting ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1200 BC, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 5/8” long (16 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and help it resurrect. This Scarab comes in a jewelry display cup.

Terracotta head of one of the Dioscuri wearing a pointed cap with bulged rim. Strands of wavy hair frame the face.
The head is almost entirely covered with a white slip. The details of the face such as eyes and mouth were rendered with additional colors.
