An ancient Roman bronze leg from a large bronze vessel, depicting a feline, with short mane, mouth agape and with ferocious expression. 1 5/8 inches high. Purchased on the New York art market. Said to be from an old Dutch collection.

North African, Terra Sigillata red-slip oil lamp, depicting a running lion surrounded by a swirling floral pattern. 2nd/3rd Century AD. 5 1/2 inches long X 3 inches wide. Repaired. Ex. old Belgian collection of Felix Lauwers, acquired 1970s-early 1980s.

A lovely coloured Roman glass bottle. Eastern Mediterranean, 2nd - 3rd century AD.

Condition: Extremely fine, sound glass vessel of an aubergine-red colour with exceptional irridescence.

A very large unguentarium made of slightly green clear glass Roman, Eastern Mediterranean, 2nd - 3rd century AD.

The bottle of impressive height and with broad base and tappering neck, sound glass.

Size: c. 17,5 cm. tall and 8,7 cm. in diameter at the base!

Condition: Extremely fine, sound almost clear glass vessel with beautiful silverish and rainbow irridescence and deposits inside.

Provenance: Formerly in the property of Eberhard Hanfstaengl (1886-1973)

Scarce and beautiful early type of pottery Oil lamp, Roman late 1st. century AD.

The lamp is of the Loeschcke Typus VIII and displays a scene with Hercules with bow and club on the discus. Very high relief! Finely stamped with makers or workshop name: CIVA.ALE(?)

Size: 10,5 cm.

Condition: Choice, a crack repaired othervise intact with nothing missing.

Provenance: From a Rheinland-Pfalz collection, 1970-1999.

Very interesting Roman pottery oil lamp with a Roman empress or high born lady on the discus, ca. mid 2nd. century AD.

The lamp can be dated quite accurately since the hairstyle of the lady is from the period of Hadrian-Antoninus Pius, so no later than 170 AD.

Size: 12 cm. a large and quite massive lamp.

Condition: Very nice and intact, with traces of corrosion.

Ex. Collection of M. Victor Dumas, France, aquired before 1920.

Fine red slip ware bowl on a low ring base, the flat floor offset from the steep wall by a groove.
The flat rim with a fine groove around the outer edge. All covered by a thin smoothed slip.
Roman African red slip ware pottery is characterized by an orange color and a shiny surface.
By the third century AD, fine African red slip pottery wares became the most popular type of tableware in the Roman Empire.

Rare moldmade lamp decorated with two dolphins and a rosette on the rounded shoulder.
Central filling hole. The broad-tipped nozzle ends in small volutes close to the discus ring.
The base with two raised rings. Surface partially covered with a red-brown glaze.
Near to Loeschcke type II.

Fine rim fragment showing the fight of Herakles against the snake-headed hydra.
The hero brandishes his club while three snake heads appear in front of his chest. The monster’s body winds around the hero’s legs.
Herakles is shown with a muscular body...

Mold-made factory lamp of Loeschcke type IXb. The sunken discus with a central filling hole, the elongated air-hole pierced along the nozzle channel. The base with a sunken central area.
The shape is known from North Italian makers like Strobilus, Atimeti and others.
Numerous variants of their products were also confectioned in Gaul and Germania, although it is not clear if by branch workshops of by plagiarisers.

Fine bowl on a low ring base, the floor with two concentric grooves. The inside of the rim with steps along a central ridge. Eight groups of notches on the lip. Thin smoothed slip.
