A very rare stamp seal carved in black stone, Mesopotamia, Early Halaf period, c. 7th.-6th. mill. BC.

A rare elongated irregular form of stamp seal not quite rectangular, possibly in family with the earliest foot-shaped seals, that we know from Mesopotamia. Arched handle, pierced for supension. A Attractive early seal in a substantial size.

Size: 31-32 mm. long.

Condition: Good Very fine, slight wear from use but intact with redish deposits.

Throughout the revolution that lasted from AD 66 to 70, a large number of purely jewish coins were made to supply the needs of war, as offerings for the temple, and as political or inspirational statements...

The vessel features a reel-shaped body with stepped foot and a flange. The doomed top with the head of Medusa at center. Medusa is rendered with a round face and curls ending in snake heads.
The pyxis is made in one piece and open at the bottom. The piece was not intended for concrete use and served as richly decorated burial object.
The surface shows remains of the original white engobe with gilded areas.

Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this fragmented, but still lovely Egyptian blue faience offering cup with cartouche. The back and part of the lower portion is missing, however the front containing the cartouche of the pharaoh is still intact. The cartouche is highlighted in black and appears to contain the cartouche of Amenhotep. The vessel measures 2" in height, plus the size of the base. A nice dark green faience amulet with the head of the God Bes in a round open-worked plaque with a hole for suspending. Three feathers of his tiara, his eyebrows and the pupils with traces of black pigment. It is a rare depiction of a juvenile Bes.

A lovely greek pottery head of a female godess, likely Aphrodites, with intact neck and all detals preserved, Hellenistic period, 3rd.-2nd. century BC.
