A lovely ancient Egyptian Scarab, c. 1070 or older, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 9/16” long (14 mm) and made of faience. Scarabs empowered life and resurrection and were often placed under mummy wrappings to protect the body and to help it resurrect. This is a nice copper or copper alloy axe from Northern Iran. It dates to roughly the end of the third millennium BCE. Similar examples can be seen in P.R.S. Moorey Catalog of Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Ashmolean Museum pp 41-43. Axes of this type are commonly attributed either to the broad classification of Luristan or to the Elamite culture. A set of two very decorative Islamic tiles with floral motifs in fine colours, Qajar or earlier, c. 17th.-19th. cent. AD.

Unresearched but guaranteed at least from the 19th. century, probably older. With fine crackles in the glaze and a wonderful brownish patina on the backside.

This is a wonderful example of an ancient bronze spear from ancient Greece or Persia. It has a beautiful, leaf-shaped blade with a strong central rib. The tang is rectangular with a 90 degree bend at the end that is finished with a perfect round knob. The patina is a mix of light greens and browns. This is a near perfect example of an unusual weapon type. The length is roughly 25 cm and the weight is 92 grams. It is solid and stable and is in excellent condition.
