Fine and rare old rattan “tali” basket with a contracted mouth from the Idu Mishmi ethnic group of Arunachal Pradesh, India. In India they are primarily animist but in China where they are known as the Lhoba they have a strong spiritual affiliations with Tibetan Buddhism. 18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of standing Bhairava accompanied by a small figure of a saddled horse. Govinda Bhairava is a syncretic form of Vishnu and Shiva. The upper hands are holding Vishnu’s attributes (Chakra and Shankha) and the lower hands are holding Shiva’s attributes (staff and begging bowl). Rare icon,. wonderful casting, beautiful devotional wear, excellent patina, traces of red sandalwood paste used during worship. Height 2 3/8 inches.

Unusual 19th century Indian votive bronze bell with handle in a shape of monkey God Hanuman with his hands in front of him in praying attitude, his tail forming a halo around his head. Very nice casing and detailing, beautiful patina. Produces beautiful melodious sound, overall in excellent condition. Height with handle 3 15/16 inches.

18th century Indian bronze votive sculpture of dancing Krishna playing a flute, cast in the State of Orissa. This avatar of Vishnu playing flute for gopis is known as Krishna Venugopala (as always in this image, flute was cast separately, and is missing). Excellent casting and detailing (see the loose ends of his tied loincloth), wonderful face, beautiful patina, very pleasant feel of age to the sculpture. Height 5 1/4 inches.

An assemblage of a figural Baluchari silk sari end panel fragment, showing three European men riding on a railway coach, dating around 1800. Edged with a Kashmiri wool shawl fragment. Very old anthropomorphic statue of a deity protecting a household, staying on a circular base, with an expressive face and hands in praying posture. Eroded wood, age patina. Nepal, 19th century. Height: 33.3 cm. The statue is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Collected in the early seventies in the Himalayan region.
