Finely carved with serene expression. With downcast eyes, elongated earlobes and wearing a fine moustache. His jewelled hair dress with flowing curls forming a topknot. An interesting saddle bag possibly made from the hide of an ibex or mule like animal. The bag retains that rugged look used by the merchants who travelled across the Himalayas during the spring to Tibet and back bring goods from India to the Tibetan plateau. Original Indo/Persian painting with marbled card border. Identified as NADIR SHAH AFSHAH (1688-1748). Undated, estimated to be mid 19th century or earlier. 35 x 25 cm overall, in new double thick card mount. Good condition, some scuffing to corners of marble border.

19th Century Indian Antique Bronze Fluting Krishna Sculpture. 4.5 inches (11.5 cm). Excellent Condition. From the collection of a prominent author on and collector of Asian art.

Hanging from the belt on a leather strap, the stylized milking hook was the essential item of ornamentation for any Tibetan woman properly dressed for a festival. Surrounding the hook surface is a heavy etched silver band. The bronze/brass hook has is etched with markings and is inset with 5 large beads, set in silver bezels. The original leather strap shows lots of wear.

These ceremonial hooks have become hard to obtain...

Very rare and early piece, nicely cast, finely engraved and with a good patina. The Krishna figure has two silver bracelets on each arm. H. 24 cm. Condition: left index finger restored.
