This is a gorgeous hagi-isho juban ( under kimono ) which is made of many kinds of silk such as plain silk with katazome ( stencil-dyeing ), silk crepe with itajime ( board-clamp-dyeing ) and katazome ( stencil-dyeing ) and shibori ( tie-dyeing ), wild silk and so on. This piece was exhibited in the show in Japan. It has thin cotton lining inside. Late Edo or early Meiji period ( ca. mid 19th C to early 20th C ). Antique uchishiki, Japanese alter cloth, embroidered on silk satin with Chinese theme, “The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove”. Probably from late 18th to mid 19th century. 26 3/8" x 25" (67cm x 63 1/2cm).

Condition: This is a beautiful antique textile even with some obvious damage and wear, still solid with a thick cotton backing. The wear is seen particularly on both ends of the design. This quality of needle work is seldom seen.

This is a hydrangea pattern and a high technique of yuzen dye, and shadow and the color of the leaf are expressed boldly. It is the gem which does not exist in other tsutsugaki. It is a painting of wonderful yuzen dye. Tsutsugaki is done by a considerably exact technology. It is a wonderful masterpiece of Edo at latter term. Japanese candy apple red under-kimono with a simple, yet beautiful shibori style design of flowers. Shibori is a method of fabric dying in which bits of cloth are tied, sewn, folded, twisted, etc. to create patterns, similar to the Western method of tie-dye. It is lined with red cotton and has a white cotton collar and sleeves. Taisho period (1912-1925) Size: 46.75" height, 45" width

This is silk tsumugi yuzen kimono textile in the edo-bakumatsu(1800-1868) age. It is very graceful and is beautiful. There are a little stain and damage. However, it is overall good. size:140cm x 124cm (55.1" x 48.8")

This fireman's sashiko coat is the one in Edo period. (1850) It is dragon's motif in the indigo dye cotton. It is very impressive. There is damage in the collar. 82cm x122cm (32.1" x47.8") sashiko hanten are the coats worn by firemen for protecting their bodies. Some have pictures,some are of all repeated patterns, and the others are unfigured indigo ones or ones with a medalion on the back. It is a polychrome in the cotton ground that is black, is gray, blue, blue, white, beige, etc...

This is indigo dye fireman's shirushi hanten at the Meiji era.(1870~1910) It is tsutsugaki in the indigo dye cotton. Shirushi hanten of this length is very valuable. It is a very impressive motif. There is a little repair mark. However, the state is very good. It is touch of the cotton of a warm indigo dye. It is a wonderful, beautiful excellent article. Please add to your collection.

Kesa was originally made from old scraps of material donated to the priests. The scraps became finer and quite luxious in time. People who gave to Buddhist institutions were often keen to give very expensive items, so some fabulous kesas were created from wonderful silk brocades. This also could mean that the wealthier temples end up collecting the better fabrics or are able to send out for the expensive custom made kesas...

This is Indigo dye cotton dotyugi coat of the Edo era(1800-1868). It is made of hand-spun and hand-woven and natural indigo dyed cotton. It is katazome, and, as for the lining, the motif of the plover is very beautiful. It has a few thin stains. However, as a whole it is in very good condition. size:111cm x 126cm (43.7" x 49.6")

This is aya-Weave nishijin textile silk Bag of treasure in Edo period(1603-1867). It is very rare. There is rubbing in the part of the string. However, it is very good. This is tsutsugaki & handwriting fireman's cotton coat sashiko hanten coat of a splendid firefighter of the late Tokugawa period of the Edo era(1800-1867). A fight of kawanakajima is a design. It is a very high technique. A samurai (takeda shingen and uesugi kenshin) and a horse are drawn and are also the uplifting feeling and the excitement which seem to begin to move shortly. And there is sashiko stitch on the entire surface by hand. As for it, length is longish with 92cm...

Beautiful Japanese antique wedding kimono made of chirimen silk (crepe) and decorated all over with a scene of a river and blossoming plum trees in a rural pavilion setting, the design is done in a paste resist with a delicate blending of colors, silk embroidered details are accented with extensive use of gold thread and small areas of shibori technique.
