Antique Korean painting, very tall and narrow, of a pair of phoenix birds, one occupying the upper portion of the painting and the other one on the bottom. The lower phoenix emerges from water as shown by a blossoming lotus. The rest of the space surrounding both birds is filled with robust peony blossoms of different color. Painted in rich mineral colors on paper. Later put into a custom lacquered wood frame.

The magical phoenix is called Bonghwang in Korea...

A large Korean celadon jar, with incised decoration of floral sprays. Goryeo dynasty (12th-13th century) Of high-shouldered sinuous form, moulded with four lugs, incised on the body with four lotus sprays and with a collar of auspicious fungus heads below the short, upright rim, the whole applied with a glossy celadon glaze. Dimensions; 32 cm tall Condition. With good glaze condition, there is an old repair as a large section of the foot has been re-attached...

Late Choson period, ca. 1900

Decorated in cobalt blue with a design of chrysanthemum and bamboo, stoutly potted and glazed with a clear glaze of faintly aqua tint. Very minor glaze pitting and surface scratches, slight wood ash dusting seen mostly on the shoulder of one side, small amount of sand adhering to the foot, otherwise very good condition.

Large Korean three-level kitchen cabinet (samch'ung ch'an-jang) orange-brown color finish, elm wood panels, iron hardware, top section has 2 small drawers with bat shaped hardware, top compartment opens wide with pair of double hinged doors, bottom compartment has 2 sets of doors opening to two separate compartments, beautiful overall scale and proportions, Chosun Period (c. 1900). There are many 20th century reproductions of these types of paintings. Authentic Joseon Dynasty examples like this exist only in museums. And even in museums, a pair like this is very rare...

Antique Korean glazed bottle vase. Pear shaped rising to a tall neck with a slightly everted rim and applied with a glossy transparent glaze. Fluted rounded rim with natural design. Would have been used to store choice fluids. Choson period circa 1850s.

A sublime Korean celadon bowl with a flower and scrolling vine motif imprinted on the inside of the bowl bordered with an incised line below the rim. The grey green glaze displays a dense web or craze of lines. Korean celadon wares have been favored by the Korean court and by the Japanese, who call it Korai Seiji. The pieces were used in chanoyu as tea bowls and as bowls for sweets. Age: Goreyo Dynasty. Size: Height: 3" Diameter: 7.5"
