A Mingei style sculpture of a sake-sprite (Shojo) making off with a barrel of rice wine on his shoulder dating from the 19th century. This architectural work was likely originally part of a gate, and would have been a welcome sign to thirsty fellows after a day of work. Carved from a single piece of hard Keyaki wood, It is in excellent condition. 28 x 12 x 5 inches (71 x 13 x 13 cm). Keyaki as a wood is known for its hardness, beautiful grain and pest resistance.

This is an old Mexico City early repousse cuff. I love the romantic shape and the expert carving on this piece. The flowers are very deep and the dimension is outstanding. The front face is a large 2in. tall. The back is tapered to a not so small 1.25 inches. The repousse is open backed and also bares no hallmarks which is indicative of the earliest Mexico City pieces. The condition is superb with no cracks or dents.

A white-glazed Dingyao censer was in decent form.
With two erected loops, the censer was well decorated on the surface with carved floral pattern.
For verification, the body clay was in dense-feel quality which was the very characteristic for Dingyao wares.
The greasy-feel glaze on the surface was in old look by the incursions, especially along the carving lines of the motifs...

Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 9.25". This is an example of the "Tougatta-kei" tradition of Miyagi Prefecture. The artisan is Yuda Sadao. Huge and sparkling is what to call this Dorothy Bauer sun brooch. Every rhinestone is prong set by hand. Heavy gold plating and the Bauer oval mark compose the back. The brooch is 5" in diameter.
