I am assuming that Barrera must have been an early Mexico City maestro since most of his work that I have had is in the style closely associate with that city and Matilde Poulat's creations as well. I believe that his jewelry is of excellent quality, his repoussage comfortable and very confident at the same time, and the finishing always impeccable...

Antonio Pineda properly hallmarked this beauty that is 1in. wide but it looks like more because his design moves outward in the center for a convex shape of interlocking chevrons. The weight is a hefty 132 grams. These pictures are NOT photo shopped but the piece was very difficult to photograph with lots of reflections coming off the convex shape. The diameter is 2.25in. which will fit most. No damage, has fluid movement and a joy to wear.

A massive Japanese 19thC bronze jardiniere or plant holder with raised or bas-relief detail. This handsome antique signed Japanese bronze work stands 13-1/2" tall and it measures 11-1/2" across the opening. This is a large example of a classic bowl design, and it has a nice patination (appears somewhat lightened in our photographs to show detail). It features perching and flying birds and floral branches, a decorated collar with bat designs (a sign of luck and prosperity) and incised decoration...

Slick in the most mod way, a vintage sterling silver hinged bracelet by Enrique Ledesma adorned with a prong-set simulated alexandrite (otherwise known as color-changing sapphire or corundum). I am always attracted to Ledesma's sweeping lines and the stylization of the motifs he uses (this specific design is often likened to a fish, for example). The bracelet has an inner circumference of 7" (clasped) and its width varies between 1 5/16" at center front and 7/16" at its narrowest, in the back...

The second Margot de Taxco zodiac charm bracelet currently in my inventory (please see listing no 1223198 for an Aquarius example), this piece is the ideal gift for that Aries in your life. Here too the sculpturality and heft of Margot's astrological charms is evident and the patina just what you want to see on jewelry that has been well loved and cared for. The chain is proportionately perfect for the charm and enhances the bracelet's weight and substance...

A Zuni sterling silver and turquoise double row cuff bangle bracelet circa 1960s. While we previously attributed this as a Navajo piece based upon what we were told, we have been informed by a thoughtful collector that this is actually a Zuni snake eyes bracelet. When it comes to hinged bangle bracelets, I think the Los Ballesteros taller was probably the most creative of the Taxco workshops. Their designs range from the more traditional to the slickest mod and they are usually adorned with spectacular gems or hard stones. The minimalist yet visually substantial example at hand boasts four clear amethysts nested in dramatically raised crown settings. The purple of the gems is reflected in the silver and the mirror effect is quite impressive...
