This is a very unique and beautiful Gin (silver) Kanzashi from Meiji Period (1868-1912). It has Samurai's Kabuto helmet and the plum blossoms resting on an open fan which moves to adjust the angle as the bells on the chains jingles. You can only imagine what the occasion was for. The first four photos were taken after it was polished, the rest were taken before. It truely looks beautiful now 5-6 months after being polished...

 

This fun little pin is either gold filled or has a gold wash. Measuring 1/2” x 3/16”, there are Fleur de lys at each end and an oval in the middle with “BEBE,” surrounded by black enamel. Here is a pretty woman’s face in profile. Her long golden hair trails down to end with a tiny baroque or freshwater pearl. Total length of the face, hair and pearl a little less than 3/4”. This design was based on a drawing by Charles Dana Gibson – a Gibson Girl! (See the final photograph.) It is marked 14k, weighs 1.2g, and is in excellent condition. A pale celadon jade pendant, carved and pierced with a parrot perched on a flowering prunus branch, besides a rock. With matching wooden base. Condition: fine. Dimension: pendant: c. 6.1 cm high x 3.9 cm wide x 0.35 cm thick, height with stand c. 10.5 cm.

A later Meiji period two panel screen, Pigment on silk, signed Hosen (Usui Hosen) dating 1900-1910. Shunkei lacquer frame with cloth backing. Quintessential for the era, the scene is brushed in an abbreviated style, allowing the viewer to participate by completing the details. Muted colors and the lack of hard lines lend the screen an ethereal quality, as if recalled from a distant memory...

An extremely old mask said to come from Darchula district in the far West Nepal however this mask shares striking similarities with masks from Himachal Praddesh. The encrusted black patina and the thickness of the carving seems however uncommonly observed in Himachal masks H 34 cm presented on an iron stand.

Here is a sweet little pansy pendant! Pansies have been equated with thoughtfulness, free thinking, and deep contemplation. Shakespeare’s Ophelia said "There's pansies, that's for thoughts." This little pansy is made from (tested) 10k gold, with a modern-looking 14k bale, probably the result of a later change. The enamel on the upper petals is orange, and on the lower petals, it shades from dark yellow through to white, with some darker details, and a (cultured?) pearl center...

An exquisite sake cup from the Asakiri kiln of Akashi decorated with a verse and spray of bamboo enclosed in a period wooden box signed by Yamada Takeshi (descendant of Yamada Kikutaro, Edo period founder of the kiln). This college ring is small, blue and white enamel, nouveau, and has a highly decorated figural shank. Maker's Mark of "Salman Sterling" of Boston, MA, whose 1906 advertising stated that they sold the most fobs. Only 117 women were enrolled at Yale in 1909. Very good condition, all enamel intact.
