Early Matilde Poulat bracelet in the jeweled style inextricably associated with her, this is a true collector's item from Matl's first creative period. Pieces like this become all the more difficult to find and this example is gorgeous. The amethysts are open-backed here with interesting inclusions yet no chips or breaks, and the turquoise cabs all channel-set, exhibiting slight, visually pleasing color variations. The bracelet is 7 1/8" long (wearable) by 1 9/16" wide and weighs 65.9 grams...

Good early Mexican Deco silver repousse jewelry is becoming harder to find - I don't know if it's because there weren't that many to begin with (quite often repoussage from that period seems a little clumsy, the technique needing additional experimenting with) or that at some point their popularity grew so much that they were "scooped up" from the market. Whatever the case, I am thrilled to be presenting this fantastic cuff bracelet with two saturated purple amethyst cabs here...

Horacio de la Parra is one of the early Taxco maestros whose work I am constantly on the look out for - I think the bracelet presented here amply illustrates the reasons for that. Though not as prolific as others in jewelry making (Parra is known for his high quality holloware), Parra's repoussage can be down right stupendous. In our case, the complexity of the design and the challenge it poses to the artistry of the silversmith executing it, make his feat even more incredible...

A design that doesn’t come up very often, these figural Mexican Deco silver earrings by Los Castillo remind me of Old World “wind” representations. I love the sense of powerful forward motion they convey with the curling repousse silverwork and the feather-like trail that the “winds” leave behind them as they sweep through the skies. I wonder what the rest of the parure looks like...

During their 5 year partnership in the 1940's, Spratling provided his original designs to Victor Silson who produced the designs using silver plated pewter. In her very informative book MEXICAN SILVER, Penny Morrill provides details about the years of the partnership and production of the Spratling designs.

Entirely hand-wrought in a style that brings to mind early Matilde Poulat pieces this is a monumental, early Mexican Deco bracelet. Comprised of four curved links, it resembles a hinged bangle more than a link bracelet because it holds its shape firmly when you have it on - just like a bangle would. There is no way I could ever exaggerate the depth and complexity of its repousse - this is astonishing work, immaculately executed, having a patina that lends more drama and depth to it...

This Matilde Poulat necklace is all about the palomas. With turquoise and coral stones only dotted in this design the emphasis is on the masterfully executed repousse palomas with the rare carving of the roses on the bellies. I am happy to present here a rather difficult to find early Taxco bracelet - I have come upon this specific design in its necklace form a couple of times but have only seen the bracelet once before. Hand-wrought in well-pronounced repousse it consists of a double row of tulips facing away from each other. I am particularly attracted to the patina it has acquired over time - 980 alloys "age" really gracefully - and the piece's generous width...
