An accomplished member of the Mexico City school of repoussage, maestro M. Velazquez was a contemporary of Matilde Poulat's and many of his designs are actually based on Matl's originals. The level of craftsmanship and the quality of his work have contributed to his becoming increasingly sought after by collectors, especially with the high prices Poulat's creations realize. I love all his pieces but I have a particular affinity for his brooches and this one, I have never seen in the past...

A maker whose work does not come up often but seems to have worked for Spratling at Las Delicias, Lico is distinguished by big size, absolutely powerful repousse pieces and workmanship of the highest quality. I believe the two-part belt buckle presented here supports my claim in the best possible way. Strong sense of movement and depth with the repoussage being boldly pronounced and the unbelievable patina accentuating the design's three-dimensional quality even more...

I have only come upon this specific design once in the past - again in the form of a bracelet, that one accompanied by its matching pair of earrings - and have been looking for it since. So here it is, an unusual Deco floral piece, its three-petal links made of thick silver sheet, each one centered by a bezel set turquoise cab. The stones show veining and their color varies from intense turquoise blue to soothing green...

In my opinion one of the most talented, innovative maestros of the Taxco 20th c. Silver Renaissance, Jose Luis Flores created some amazing designs that were sold not only under his own name but bore the hallmarks of Miguel Martinez, Emma Melendez and Rubi Ramirez as well. His slick designs, obviously influenced by modernist principles, are imaginative; the finishing on his jewelry flawless and their appeal timeless - no wonder he was the genius behind many pieces that came out in the market wit...

In the example at hand, a so-called “Aztec Rose” takes up almost the entire face of the bracelet and draws the eye immediately to its darkened recesses. A museum quality early Deco Mexican cuff that measures 7″ in inner circumference (includin...
