Oil on wood panel, this portrait of a young man dressed in vest and coat measures 9 1/8" x 7" (sight size) and the frame is 11 3/4" x 10 1/8". Well painted, there is a crazed and bubbled varnish surface, with some crazing in the paint visible on the vest. This sculpture of an African American man is beautifully sculpted, in a style reminiscent of early 20th century artists who were inspired by the stylized forms of African traditional art. Good size, it measures 10 1/2" high, and the base is 6 3/4" in diameter, and is a heavy wood, possibly maple or walnut.
