Zen Wako was born in Pyongan (modern day North Korea) in 1909, while that country was under Japanese Influence, and one year before it was officially annexed by Japan. He was first recognized in 1929 when his work was accepted into the Korean national Art Exhibition...

This is a set of small but very unique Keshi bina musician dolls or they may be called as Kawari bina (different or strange looking). By placing them casually, you can create an interesting group. The size of the two dolls are 4 inches tall on 1 1/2 inches stool (new lacquered wood), the other three are approx. 3 inches tall.

Circular wooden box with fitted interior. The cover inlaid in mother-of-pearl with ducks swimming in a lotus pond and auspicious symbols. The exterior walls with flowers and Chinese characters. Condition: separating age cracks, few inlays lost, cover with an old rim loss, interior warped. Dimension: diameter 24.3 cm, 11.2 cm high.

Description: A black-glazed water dropper was from famous Ding kiln.
Characteristically the body clay revealed was in dense and greasy feel quality.
It was kept in perfect condition when some incursion was found on the surface.

A large Ukibori vase covered in iron with yellow slip raised imagery of birds in a pomegranate tree by Ito Tozan I enclosed in the original signed wooden box dated 1917. It is 16 inches (40 cm) tall 10-1/2 inches (26 cm) diameter and in fine condition.
Ito Tozan I (1846-1920) began as a painter in the Maruyama school studying under Koizumi Togaku...

Rare Large Chinese Ming Dynasty Swatow Porcelain Incised Celadon Dish - Flying Horses

This large and rare porcelain dish, of the type known as "Swatow" ware, was made during the Wanli reign (1573 - 1620) of the Ming Dynasty at the Zhangzhou kilns in Fujian province where many such wares were made for export around South-east Asia...

Crackled porcelain charger decorated with a scene depicting phoenix and chrysanthemum in the central field, and, around the cavetto, with flower and interspersed with bamboo motifs. Width = 36 cm Period : Ming Dynasty, late 16th century.Condition : frittings on the rim, no chips, cracks, hairliones and free from restoration.

Description:
It is a decent Qingbai ware with height of 10.9 cm and width of 10.4.
One similar piece is in the book of " Qingbai Ware-Chinese Porcelain of the Song and Yuan Dynasties " (2002),The Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art. P174, figure93.

Description:
A fine and nice tripod censer was applied on the surface with black glaze.
It was in decent look by well proportioned body with three supporting feet.
The feet was shaped with well-executed skill by apparently a bamboo cutter or some hard tools.
'Cause obvious scraping scars were left at the feet trunks.
The scars were also approved by a documented piece.(See last picture.)

Chinese Song Dynasty Longquan Celadon Porcelain Dish

This porcelain dish was made during the 12th - 13th Century at the celebrated Longquan kilns in Zhejiang province. The cavetto is decorated with a carved pattern and it is coated in a celadon glaze save for the foot edge where the pale grey porcelain body is exposed...

An unusual chato (tea room sword) in the shape of an octopus, its 8 legs stretched out in uniform with one curled back exposing the suckers. Eyes are intimated on one side, with an old chip where the breathing hole is opposite. About the neck is wrapped a faded silk chord. It is 22 inches (56 cm) long. It is said that these wooden swords were produced from the mid to late Edo period, in lieu of swords for those not allowed to carry weapons (all but samurai)...

A dark blue satin woman's garment, dating to the late Qing dynasty, with center opening fastened with a gilt metal ball button and two ribbons. The four lobed collar, terminating in ruyi heads, and all wide hems extravagantly embroidered with romance figures in Peking stitch and little gold thread couching. Trimmed with different woven borders, the straight sleeves with embroidered outer cuff bands. Later figured blue silk lining. Condition: very good, only partial little staining...

The origin of this antique velvet ikat is not obvious. Some authors describe it of Persian, others of Central Asian origin. Striped fabric lining. Cf. Bühler, Alfred : Ikat Batik Plangi, Basel 1972 : No. 123. Condition: splits, repairs, holes, wear, stitched together with one seam, faded. Dimension : 60 cm x 105 cm.

A splendid Chinese export silver circular egg cruet fitted with four egg cups and four spoons each decorated with bamboo. The cruet standing on 3 ball feet, the cups and spoons with gilt bowls. The cruet and cups with maker's mark "TC" standing for Tuck Chang who was active between the late 19th century and early 20th century in Shanghai. Condition: few traces of usage, few wear to gilding. Dimension: total height: 19 cm, cups: 7.4 cm high, spoons: 10 cm long, total weight: 386 g.

Prehistoric carved stone (steatite) spider effigy pipe, Fort Ancient Culture, circa 1,000-1,200 A.D. Size: 3 inches x 2 inches x 1.5 inches. Excellent condition. Discovered in Posey County, Indiana, this early stone elbow pipe dates from the Mississippian period and was carved by the people of the Fort Ancient Culture, who lived along the Ohio River, in the regions that now occupy S. Ohio, N. Kentucky and S.E. Indiana. This pipe bears the very detailed carved effigy of a spider...
