Starting with the famous verse by Chinese Scholar YoYu (AD 53-18) ”The written character is a picture of the heart” (Sho kokoro Ga nari) here are written 42 rules of calligraphy spread over 10 narrow panels by the famous calligraphist Ide Gakei dated 1677. The verses appear to have been written in one sitting, the style going from crisp perfect Kaisho characters through Gyosho stylized characters and into the elegantly running Grass script (Sosho)...

Body decorated with molded incised of Lion playing ball and the other side with Mandarin Duck among lotus pond. Condition is broken and re-glued, the upper side, spout and handle is missing. Found at South Sulawesi about more than 10 years ago. Height: 18.5cm.

Description: A white-glazed Bowl of Ming dynasty was from sea wreckage. Kept though in perfect condition, the outer surface was partially loss of glaze and left with some yellowish incursion. Some adhesives were reserved at the foot ring. The bowl rings well when tapping by fingers. Date: Ming Dynasty(AD1368-1644), Width: 14.8cm, Height: 6.8cm. Provenance: Jindezheng, Jiangxi Province

Description: A cut-glaze Cizhou ewer pot was finely rendered.
By affluent carving skill, the potter decorated on the upper portion of the body with motifs of peony flowers and scrolling leaves and stems.
Added on the side with a leaf-like handle, the ewer was used by pouring liquid from the short spout

Date: Jin to Yuan periods,13th/14th century.

Very pale celadon color jade buckle with 2 dragons. The dragons are beautifully carved with nice detailing. A graceful arch formed by the body of the main dragon curves over the "button." A Very Rare Chinese Yuan Dynasty Porcelain Lidded Jar - Jizhou Ware (Ex. Grahame Clarke Collection)

This very rare small jar was made in the 14th Century during the Yuan Dynasty (1279 - 1368). Although it is clearly from the Jizhou kilns of Northern China it is painted on a porcelain body under a qingbai type of glaze. Usually Jizhou wares are on a stoneware body. This strand of malachite Tibetan Prayer beads has been somewhat dulled with time and use, but the color patterns of the beads are still clear and beautiful. The coral counter beads are a bit lighter color than appears in the photo. I am dating them conservatively as pre 1950 but it is possible that they actually are from the later Qing dynasty. If open up, the total length of the mala would measure 39 inches.

This is an old Yogi, a futon/blanket for the colder parts of Japan. It is a thick cotton dyed in the "Japanese blue", ai/indigo with a tsutsugaki (freehand painted rice paste resist) family crest on the back and stuffed with a cotton inside. The whitle little spots that you see are cutton balls from inside. The condition is excellent; some faint brown stains on the right side bottom and the lower left side bottom of the inside which is giving a charactor to this beautiful piece...

This is a very high quality Kyoto Nishijin silk brocade obi, one of the best quality obi that we are currently offering. You may find the same type of designs in newer or even in old obis, but the quality of silk and the fine embroidery would not be the same. I have been always searching for the same obi after purchasing this obi in Japan. The seach is still continued. The originally white color is now aged to a beautiful creamy tan color, excellent condition...

A cascade of flora drapes from the neck of this gorgeous piece by Seifu Yohei IV. It is 31 cm (12 inches) tall and in perfect condition. Quite large for a work by Seifu, it is marked on the base with an incised signature.
Seifū Yohei IV (Seizan: 1872-1946) was born the second son of Seifū Yohei III (1851-1914). He studied literati-style painting under Tanomura Shōsai (1845-1909), a son of Tanomura Chokunyū, in Osaka for three years...

An unusually large vase by Seifu Yohei III with carved cloud designs covered in mottled red flambe glaze. The box is titled Dawn-cloud-glazed Vase, Made by the former Seizan (alternate name used by Seifu III) dated Late in the Year of the Earth-Horse in the Taisho era (1918), attested to by the 4th generation Seifu. Steam coils about the petit young woman at the public bath, a fine Taisho era painting signed Ikuho. The color blends into the silk, leaving a soft edge enhancing the sense she is being viewed through the steam and heat of the bath. Pigment on silk, mounted later in green patterned cloth extended with grey and featuring wooden rollers. As pictures of nudes were forbidden, Ikuho is likely a pen-name, possibly taken from Ikuho Street in Northern Kyoto city where the artist may have resided...
