Rare Large Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Dog with Oxford TL Test

This pottery model of a dog was made some 2,000 years ago, during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220) and has been excavated from Sichuan province. It is made from a relatively high-fired grey pottery. All such pottery dogs from Sichuan tend to wear a harness and this is no exception...

A garment-hook or belt-fitting in the shape of a horse, made of bronze with green patination. According to the Brooklyn Museum, these belt hooks in the form of a horse come from Lelang, one of three commandaries, or colonies, that the Chinese established in northwest Korea during the Han dynasty and that lasted more than four hundred years (108 B.C.E.–313 C.E.). A Chinese B&W storage jar decorated with ladies playing a game in a garden, surrounded by children. Marked with an Artemisia leaf. Kangxi period (1662-1722). In the 19th century the silver mounts were added by an unknown Dutch silver smith. Hallmarked with the 'old sword'. This item is in a very good condition., with only a minor glaze chip to the mouth rim. H. 12 cm.

Japanese Meiji period Genroku porcelain hibachi of cylindrical form finely decorated around the circumference in underglaze blue plovers flying over crashing foaming waves set against a white ground. The base holds the mark of “Tominaga Genroku sei” together with the Genroku Studio mark. Tominaga Genroku (1859-1920) opened the Genroku kiln in Saga Prefecture in 1888 with a goal of producing fine quality porcelain. Fine & Rare Large Chinese Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Box (206 BC - AD 220)

This rare pottery box was made during the Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 220). It is a two-part box made from a grey pottery. The cover has been elaborately decorated by "cold-painting" a base coat of creamy-white pigment on top of which have been various coloured pigments, mainly red, white and black, but there are also traces of green and purple pigments...

This is an original old Chinese poster of two women (actually men disguised as women) advertising cigarettes. Very early poster women were not allowed to pose for these posters. Original posters are almost impossible to find. I had acquired these posters many years ago in Beijing and forgot I had the. Just discovered them recently. Age: 1920s. Size: 76cm x 51cm. Condition: Some fraying around the edges and minor rips from age.

Kraak period, Wanli reign (1563 - 1620) large plate or low bowl done in underglaze blue on white ground. The center design shows a dragon.

Of high content silver (.950 or higher), this warmer or burner is Korean, early 20th century, possibly 19th. Measures 5 3/4" x 6 1/4". Three pieces, burner, lid, and tray. Signed in rectangular cartouche on base, has marks for silver. Four bat shaped handles, two on lid, two on base. Lid and base are engraved with prunus blossoms, and the background around the engraving is slightly textured to create a more satiny surface...

A Chinese blanc de chine barrel shaped jar and cover the flattened circular lid with twin peach finial, the curving sides of the jar decorated with bands of raised dot designs at the rim and base, the sides otherwise decorated with hawthorn blossom sprays and twin lion head bosses.

Japanese sosaku hanga woodblock print with hand-applied color by Ono Tadashige (1909-1990) signed at the lower right "T. Ono" in white ink. Attached to a sheet of handmade Japanese washi paper inscribed in black ink in kanji verso with the artist's signature, the title "Fugu" (Pufferfish), and date of 1959. At the lower left in pencil is "No. 12" and the lower right appears to hold the original price (rubbed). The washi backing sheet measures 12 3/8" x 18" (image: 11 7/8" x 17 5/8")...

A superb Landscape by Yano Tetsuzan dated the second month of 1924 enclosed in the original signed wooden box. The arched rooves of Chinese style pavilions rise in the placed waters under th shelter of precipitous verdant cliffs, trees in fall colors in the foreground setting the stage. Above a long verse in Kanshi signed Tetsuzan. Ink and pigment on silk in a dark blue-green satin border with ivory rollers (the rollers will be changed for export)...

Very dramatic deeply concave oval shaped African shield from Ethiopia. The animal hide is scraped free of hair and then placed over a shaped board with protrusions which will allow for greater protection in warding off blows. The edge is tightly rolled and there are added tool marks for heightened decoration. The handle is tied and knotted into place at a slight angle to allow for a more comfortable hold.
