When carefully examined, the shaped body of this antique ceremonial Tibetan snuff container appears to be animal horn. Decorated with silver and bronze fittings, coral, turquoise and agate beads, this snuff bottle or more accurately, snuff container would have been worn suspended from a chain as a costume ornament by a shaman. It was purchased in Kunming from a Tibetan woman who was there selling her family treasures...
Originally intended for a child's protection, this traditional Chinese silver lock necklace makes a very nice display piece and/or can be worn by an adult. The chain is 16 inches long and easily unhooks from either side. The "lock" is 2.5 inches wide x 1.25 inches high and 1 inch deep.
Wisteria vines in gold and silver Maki-e lacquer decorate the natural body of this beautiful sake flask cut from a section of vine, hollowed and capped with natural wood and black lacquer, a pouring spout of brass bunged with bamboo. It is 9 inches (22 cm) tall and in fine condition, dating from the 19th century.
Intricately carved with a three legged toad (wealth) resting on a leaf, next to a lotus pod with movable hardwood seeds, under the leaf a spider and another insect and two frogs on the stem of the lotus pod. A pair of gold screens with bold shishi on genuine gold leaf. It is signed Miyauchi Gohogan Shinsai Fujiwara Morimichi sei and stamped Hogan Morimitsu no In. Each panel is 37-1/4 x 68-1/2 inches (94.5 x 174 cm). The screens have been restored, with some old repairs visible. These appear to be remounted from what is likely a different composition, possibly a set of fusuma doors...

Description: An exquisite bamboo carving depicted a smiling boy holding a basket which has fishes in it. In fantastic carving skill, the piece was added with more attraction by it's aged patina. A rare pair Japanese plates showing a dragon among textile-weave patterns worked in dull colored enamels, the brass or copper rims and wires showing partially remnants of gilding. The reverse decorated with further floral motifs, the base with green contre-émail. The enamel showing concavities and pits. Condition: fine, only wear to gilding. Dimension: diameter: 24.9 cm, 4.2 cm high, weight: 1400 g.
Arrow vase of rectangular sectioned, lozenge form tapering from the broad, flared foot toward more gradually flared rim. Typical tubular decorative devices flanking the neck. The rim apparently polished down a little and reglazed (perhaps trying to match the caramel colored glaze found inside the foot.) Some loss to one of the tubular devices and less consequentially from the foot where glaze overflow was also ground flush. Otherwise acceptable and presentable condition. 19th century...
