Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Caiyuan Culture (c. 2600 - 2200 BC)

This attractively-shaped pottery jar was made some 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Caiyuan Culture (c. 2600 - 2200 BC) and has been excavated from the Ningxia Autonomous Region in the north of China. It is finely-potted with thin walls and the pottery has fired to a nice reddish-orange colour. Rare Chinese Five Dynasties / Early Song Dynasty Incised Jar / Water Pot

This round stoneware jar was made in the 10th Century, either during the Five Dynasties period (AD 906 - 960) or during the early part of the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279). The wall is decorated with an incised repeating petal design. It is coated in a pale greenish glaze that is very finely-crackled and that falls of short of the base revealing the pale grey body.

An ovoid covered jar was in a decent size of 31cm in height.
In a perfect condition and owned the original cap, the ancient ware was uniquely decorated on top and on the body with whitish splashes.
The vessel stands on a small, solid foot with flat bottom.
Applied with dark tea-dust slip on most of the surface, the grayish white body clay was revealed underneath.
Enduring old clay verified its date.
