A rare pair Chinese chair strips with the typical four register design, showing bamboo, lingzhi fungus and scholar rocks. The ground fabric is a steel blue silk with black silk embroidery in satin stitch and little Peking knot. Trimmed with gold-wrapped thread border, cotton lining. Condition: good used condition - no restauration, particularly one cover with more traces of usage...

Description:

A soapstone carving was depicted as a sitting Lohan.
Amusingly, the Lohan was seated with one bare foot and holding with the shoe.
By unique purplish red tint, the soapstone figure was preserved nicely with only minute defects on portions of the bottom's rim.
There were jewels and beads decorated on the robe, now were missing and left only with fastening holes.

Metaphorical symbol of longevity in Chinese custom, Crane (Her -or wish to) and peach (longevity) altogether means- wish you happy and longevity. Description: An exqusite wood carving depicts magpies on plum branches. With skillful craftsmanship, two birds playing within knaggy branches was naturally carved on the construction of the openwork. An example of Chinese traditional wood work. A reserved inlay piece was believed 'cause grooves were obvious on the reverse side.
