One hundred herbs prayer bead bracelet from the boarder town between China and Tibet. These type of prayer bead is believed to be good for curing all types of sickness. The beads are made by compressing 100 herbs into a ball. There are 18 beads in all. Age: Pre 1920. Size: inside radius 7cm. It is stringed with a new stretch string to fit all. An antique Guardian mask used to ward off evil hand carved from a rough slab of hardwood. It is 14-1/2 inches (37 cm) tall and in fine condition. Usually hung under the eaves of a house, it shows weathering typical of age. Late 19th to early 20th century.

A very rare painting of a skull and scattered bones lost to autumns dead grasses by important 20th century Zen priest Takeda Mokurai. Ink on paper bordered in brown cloth with gray extensions; dark wood rollers. The scroll is 16 by 68 cm (40.5 x 172.5 cm) in fine condition.

Large wooden prayer beads from Lhasa with nine glass bead spacers and two leather counters with ten silver rings each ending with silver inlaid mountain coral and turquoise.The wooden ones are made from the wood of the Bodhi tree where Buddha received his enlightenment. Total length of the beads 76cm. This does not include the counters. Condition: All original.

A cylindrical porcelain brush pot. The exterior painted in famille verte qianjiang enamels with an outdoor setting surrounded by mountains. A seal and several lines of calligraphy complete the brush pot. The base left blank.

A pleasure craft of solid burled wood covered in clear, black and red lacquer with inlayed mother of pearl designs which opens up to be a picnic box. The fore-peak is removable and opens to hold chopsticks. The upper cabin is a sake bottle, the roof a large plate, the the lower cabin food and rice storage. The aft holds 6 small plates, and the structure all can be removed to reveal the food storage in the hold. It is roughly 20 x 8-1/2 x 11 inches (50 x 21 x 28 cm)...

The wheel is covered with deep red coral beads. Additional strands of coral beads and the turning weight are attached to a narrow leather strap which bands the center of the wheel. The handle was hand turned. Almost 12" hight and 5" in diameter, this old prayer wheel has seen many turns.

A spectacular pair of vases by Ito Tozan I decorated with the imperial chrysanthemum in gold between soaring phoenix; symbols of the Japanese imperial family. Both come in the original (tired) silk pouch in a compartmentalized wooden box signed by the artist. Each is roughly 6 inches tall and in excellent condition, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century (later Meiji to Taisho period)...

A decidedly different version of this theme, a Festive carved wooden Tai (Red Snapper) fish with removable side for sashimi coated inside in gold with bone teeth and inlayed bone eyes. The craftsman ahs gone to great lengths to make this as realistic as possible, from the textures of the skin to the folds in the fins and coloring. Unusually, most dishes in this vein are one sided, however this is equally realistically carved on both sides...

An exotic white inko in a pine tree enclosed in the original red lacquered double signed wooden box (Niju bako). Pigment and ink on silk in a fine brown silk border patterned with Kiri leaves, extended with blue gray and featuring large ivory rollers. It measures 23-1/2 x 80-1/2 inches (60 x 204 cm). A full-length Lamaist costume made for the ritual Cham dance with flared sleeves weighted at the bottom. This dress is composed of antique Chinese silks, mainly of a dark blue brocade with design of scattered peonies. The stripes in yellow satin damask with woven dragon roundels and red silk damask with clouds and roundels containing brocaded Chinese longevity characters. The collar made of red silk satin with a brocaded shuangxi character and decorated with two different brocaded fragments...

A large basin in striking cobalt designs by Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan enclosed in an unsigned wooden box. The central figure is a soaring phoenix spiral n elaborate plumage surrounded by clam shaped scallops in which leaping carp vie for the prize. About the rim 3 dragons battle for the flaming pearl. Outside serpentine vines intertwine about voluptuous flowers over phoenix. All together a sumptuous and royal aura. It is roughly 32 cm (12-1/2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition...

 

A large porcelain vase covered in olive green upon which grows a rush of white bamboo and a brief epitaph by Miura Chikusen I enclosed in the original signed wooden box dating to the late Meiji or early Taisho period. It is 15 inches (37.5 cm) tall and in excellent condition. The box has much darkened with age. Works of this size by Chikusen, who largely specialized in the minute world of Sencha ware are quite rare...

A Teapot by Teishitsu Gigei-In Suwa Sozan I decorated by his friend the famous scholar artist Tomioka Tessai and enclosed in a signed double wood box. A custom pad between the pot and lid protect it during storage from chipping, and it has a silk bag in which it is wrapped. . It is 4-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 6 inches (11 x 19 x 15 cm) and in excellent condition. The box is titled Daibutsu Sozan – Chossen – Suichu and signed Hachiju Okina Kyuso Tessai Dai, Sozan Yakisei.
