Measuring 10" high, and 13" at the widest point on the flared lip, this unusual Oribe vessel is likely a hibachi. Round at the bottom, the lip flares outward in a square shape, and the drip glaze is typical of Oribe wares, with rich flowing colors from dark olive green to deep turquoise, with flecks and spots of black, with lighter blue sections. The slip is of a creamy color, over stoneware, and there are applied motifs in iron oxide on the slip...

A large and impressive censer, this bronze and cloisonne measures 24" high, approximately 14" wide, and is heavy weight bronze. The finial on the lid has a foo dog or lion, and the base has three mythical beasts as supports for the body of the censer. The two handles are stylized foo lions also. The cloisonne is multi colored, with a base tone of turquoise, with geometric designs in the background...

A very unusual incense burner in the form of two servants holding up Hotei as he looks joyously toward the night sky. It is performed in crackled white glaze over pale clay with simple iron decoration. It comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box bearing the Teishitsu Gigei-in seal titled Ga-korai Hotei Koro indicating it was based on Korean decoration techniques. A very good sized sculpture of Pedanda, a Brahman priest of the highest caste. This is a traditional sculpture, not a piece for tourists. It's made of hard wood, very intricately carved and has a subtle polychrome. H. 51 cm. Condition: expected age wear and a few age cracks. Please refer to the detailed pictures. A similar figure is in the collection of the 'Tropenmuseum' in Amsterdam. Provenance: Belgian private collection.

Chinese Ming dynasty porcelain dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground with a hou in a central roundel surrounded by a band of peony flowers and scrolling foliage. One of the nine sons of the dragon, the hou has the appearance of a lion and is depicted roaring at the sky. A similar peony band with scrolling foliage encircles the rim on the reverse side. Circa 16th century. 9 3/4” diameter x 2” high. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs...

Delicate fish scale patterns in gold on bronze lacquer highlight old chips on the rim of this large Yamachawan Tea bowl dating from the Kamakura to early Muromachi periods (12th -15th centuries). Blue glaze twinkles on the heavily eroded surface, where Shizen-yu ash pooled and crystallized. There is a large slash in the glaze where another bowl had been stacked inside, and there are much losses to the surface glazing typical of excavated works...
