A gilt silver plaque was well decorated with motifs of QiLinSongZi, a most popular Chinese metaphor of the fairy animal Qilin sending child to the vowing family.
By characteristic Chinese scenes of pagoda, plum trees, Qilin and the figure riding through the water waves, the picturesque scene was well carved and chiseled by excellent craftsmanship.

A male front Mandarin square with a tiger, denoting the 3rd military rank. Silk tapestry (kossu, k'o-suu) with metallic threads and painted details. The animal is standing on a rock above deep water, the ground with Taoist longevity symbols. Blue silk lining. A rare okimono from the Kairakuen Kiln of the Tokugawa branch family dating from the early to mid 19th century. Koi frolic, splashing gold and silver waves as they leap and battle for the top of this stacking food dish dating from the later 19th century. The design is striking! Outside is polished black loaded down with gold and silver maki-e with applied kirigane cut gold squares. Inside is festive red. The box (assembled) is 25 x 23 x 38 cm (10 x 9 x 15 inches). Some minor dings but overall, very nice condition for something which has seen use.

Very good overall condition with no chips or cracks. Some soiling to the interior from use.

A black-glazed Zadou was mold in decent form.
In nice proportion, the ware was stand on a foot ring which revealed with beige-tinted body clay.
The glaze on the surface was in greasy feel and was yielded with charming wrinkled results due to age.
Date: Northern Song Dynasty, 960-1127.

A beautiful and well made scholar's screen made of blackwood and having the original marble insert. Most of the marble in early pieces have been replaced. The frame for the marble has a key fret design. The base has carvings of two peaches, representing longevity, and the peony for prosperity. Age: Early 19th century.
Size: H. 64cm. W. 43.5cm.
Condition: No repairs, all original, age crack on the marble, common for it's age.
