Description: An old wooden tablet with inscription of Yi Yen Tang-the hall of happy swallow was a classical piece originated probably from a lady's chamber room of a noble family's house. Preserved well with faded golden paint, the feminine word Yi-Ye was possibly from a fair lade's name, or was used as a metaphor for the family's well- being. Large Chinese Warring States Impressed Pottery jar (475 - 221 BC)

This large pottery jar was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a high-fired pale orange-brown pottery, the surface colour of which varies in places. It is of globular form with quite a wide mouth. The whole outer surface has been decorated with repeated impressed geometric patterns comprising vertical and horizontal lines.

Somtimes it was also a religious instrument holding by a Daoist monk to expell the devils.

A rare and lovely miniature b/w jar, decorated to the body with three friends of winter, these are the pine, bamboo and prunus. Ming dynasty 15th century excavated on South Sulawesi. Generally speaking this kind of Ming b/w small jar specimen is more rare to found than the others such like Yuan or late-middle Ming type. Condition is perfect except tiny flake to glaze, soft paste body. High: 5.3cm and Wide maximum: 5.7cm.

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "Lake Yamanaka in Winter" by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) dated in the right margin "2nd month of Showa 14" (1939). The black ink signature and red seal of the artist are at the lower right. The seals of the publisher Doi Hangaten, printer Itoh, and carver Ikeda are in the left margin. This seal combination was used between 1948-1950. Paper measures 10 1/4" x 15 5/8" (image: 9 7/16" x 14 1/4"). Very good overall condition...

A fabulous baluster form vase by the first generation Kato Keizan enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Gaoji Ryumimi Chokoku Kabin(Ivory Porcelain Dragon Ear Carved Vase). Low on the flaring neck two dragons form handles, and the body of the vessel as carved with archaic symbols reflecting continental taste popular from the Meiji through Taisho to early Showa period. It is 33 cm (13 inches) tall 19.5 cm (7-3/4 inches) diameter and in excellent condition...

Through the Nanbansen trade, the Portuguese introduced two important things to the Japanese in the 17th century. They were the matchlock gun and tobacco. As the popularity of tobacco spread rapidly to all classes, there was the need for a tray or box to hold the utensils. Tobacco-bon came to be the "must have" entertainment piece in the Edo period (1614-1868)...

Measuring 16 1/4" high, this porcelain bottle vase is late Qing, 19th century, and is decorated in heavy enamel glaze, with some iridescence visible. There are four panels, each with landscapes, floral and foliate elements, all in varying shades of green, with yellow, magenta, and pale blue flowers...

An Edo period sumi-e painting stamped Shundo-no-in on very rough silk depicting Daruma heir Kensu Osho, an eccentric Chinese beggar-monk who lived on shrimp and clams. The painting is certainly no less eccentric than its subject, unique among paintings I have seen from the Edo era. It retains the original faded border of dragon dials and lucky symbols extended with beige and features bone rollers...

Of pale green glass, with handle and rim of blue-green, this jar, or ewer, is nicely formed, with flared neck and ribbon like handle. Measuring 6 3/8" high and 3 1/2" wide including handle, the vessel has interior mineral deposits, and iridescence on the surface. In good condition, with visible hairline below rim and under handle (the photo accentuates the hairline). Has paper tag with previous collection data, and was acquired pre 1970...

The great Tang Poet Du Fu (712-770) affectionately coddles a goose chick in his left hand, his bamboo staff low and seemingly forgotten as he ponders the beloved creature in his palm. Exquisitely rendered, it is roughly 16 inches (40 cm) tall and signed on back with an engraved signature...
