Large Chinese Warring States Impressed Pottery jar (475 - 221 BC)

This large pottery jar was made during the Warring States period (475 - 221 BC). It is made from a high-fired pale orange-brown pottery, the surface colour of which varies in places. It is of globular form with quite a wide mouth. The whole outer surface has been decorated with repeated impressed geometric patterns comprising vertical and horizontal lines.

A rare and lovely miniature b/w jar, decorated to the body with three friends of winter, these are the pine, bamboo and prunus. Ming dynasty 15th century excavated on South Sulawesi. Generally speaking this kind of Ming b/w small jar specimen is more rare to found than the others such like Yuan or late-middle Ming type. Condition is perfect except tiny flake to glaze, soft paste body. High: 5.3cm and Wide maximum: 5.7cm.
