With charming lake-green glaze and evenly applied crackles and bubbles, the box was set with shallow dishes inside and molded decoration on cover. Framed with rare Suanzi wood, the main bottom board was made of beautiful Inn-mu wood (burl wood). This large embroidered money belt was used by Miao man for festival. The front face has delicate embroidery which is chain stitched over a black velvet background. The rear is padded and quilted home spun, indigo dyed cotton fabric. There are several areas between the different fabrics which are used as pockets for the storage of possessions. From the CongJiang in Gui Zhou province, this drinking horn is carved from water buffalo. It is a thick (and heavier weighted horn) which, according to my Miao friends is considered an inferior horn. So, this piece would have been owned by a "Poorer" family. It is wonderful primitive art object with carvings that are full of symbols reflecting Miao culture and legends. The hole in the tip would have held a string or metal ring to facilitate hanging the horn...

Han Dynasty Cocoon Jar (206 BC-220 AD). The distinctively plump, ovoid form of this jar, imitating the shape of a silkworm cocoon, has a fair amount of the original paint remaining on the body. Characteristic swirling cloud / scroll designs in reddish-pink and white cold-paint pigments decorate the surface. This jar is in very good, “as excavated” condition with no visible repairs, one chip to the rim of the mouth (see photos), as well as some burial dirt still attached...

This is a small earthenware Sui dynasty (A.D 581 - 618) lotus design comestic box. It has three small rounded compartment. The top part shows the lotus bud, pods and leave. The three flowers below are shown as three small comestic boxes in melon shape.

Aside from some abrasions, there are only minor chips at the base (picture 6). Other than that, it is in good condition.

The measurement of the yueyao comestic box is: Length 8.3cm and the Height is 5cm.
