Chinese Northern Wei Dynasty Pottery Horse with Female Rider

This attractive model of a horse and rider was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386 - 534). It is made from a grey pottery that has been cold painted in a creamy-white pigment on top of which have been applied other coloured pigments. Note the detail of the female rider's facial features and hairstyle.

Decorated in underglaze blue and underglaze red, depicting scenes of immortals and children in a garden. H. 28 cm. Republic period (1912-1949). Very good condition, no cracks or repairs, only some firing flaws on the mouth rim.

Description:
A black-glazed tea bowl was in a unique form.
Apparently caused by firing effects, the surface of the glaze was transformed to a mysterious image that was charming and different.
It was not sure if it was intentionally finished by an ingenious potter or just an accidental surprise.
But it was indeed a unique and sought-after piece for real connoisseur.

Chinese Yuan to Ming dynasty Longquan celadon dish with everted barbed rim, the center nicely carved with a floral pattern surrounded by stylized incised floral patterns on the cavetto. The glaze is crackled overall. The underside is decorated with vertical ribbing. The characteristic unglazed burnt orange ring is within the glazed ringed foot. 10 3/8" diameter x 2" high. The lid decorated with a scene of go players in a garden. The rest of the box with Buddhist symbols on a dark blue ground. Dimensions: 19x8,5x4,5 cm. Condition: expected age wear, cracks and some old chips to the enamel. Overall in good condition.

Dark blue ground with decorations in gold and green, seberal colorful scenes with Chinese figures playing Go, making music, riding horse etc. The back of the bowl with dark blue scrolls on a lavender ground. Diameter 41,5 cm. H. 11,5 cm. Condition: very good, apart from some age cracks, wear and a chip on the back of the bowl, some pieces of enamel missing, due to the firing process. Overall in a very good condition.

A fine small blue and white bowl painted with the three friends of winter consisting of the pine, bamboo and prunus rendered in varying tones of blue pigment enclosed by a double line border just below the rim and another at the bottom of the bowl. Of Janus form, with faces and bird beaks on opposing sides, this large food storage vessel is from the Chambri Lakes region, near the Sepik River in New Guinea. Formed of the local clay by the women, the decoration and paint was applied by the men, in honor of ancestral beings. Korean Joseon dynasty (1392-1910) painted portrait of a seated scholar official executed in ink and color on paper. At the center of the robe is a rank badge holding a crane, indicating the gentleman is a civil official. The calligraphy states the bearded official is 41 years old.
