A unusual rare well carved jade pendant with a stylized head of a Zhou pig on top and tapering down into a fang or a claw.. A rare yari-no-saya of course bristles blossoming tuft-like from a 7 inch black lacquered wooden sheath bound with strips of bamboo resting on a four legged hardwood stand. The Edo period piece is in excellent condition, with only minor damage to the wooden ring about the bottom of the tuft. It is made to take a spear head over 8 inches long.

This brass necklace is Circa 1870 with one genuine Egyptian scarab beetle showing it's multi green copper 'metallic' looking iridescent hues still present after these 130 years! Real critter's shell is claw set in a very ornate front & back brass mounting pendant attached to original chain. The highly ornate pendant portion has such lovely Egyptian symbols and designs that one would say it looks very Art Deco, as that era too celebrated that country's motifs. What a fantastic expression worn by this Edo p. Seto Hand warmer (hibachi or properly Shuro/ Te-abure). The dark shiny Seto glaze suits well the beast portrayed. Coals would have been burned inside, heating the surrounding pottery walls, and the piece would have been placed on a step leading into the house for guests to warm their hands on or used within the house in a more formal room. Description: A wood panel was carved with a house, a plum tree, and an elephant. An odd combination when an elephant was described in Chinese garden. "Good sign(elephant) stays in my house" -a greeting words meant a lot to Chinese people. The panel or the architecture sculpture had always been bestowed with the best wishes like this.
