The "Saphiret" color change hues dancing within are tan to aqua without the "vortex" that the other displays, yet the upper part of these domes have some of the "fire" Dragon's Breath properties. Shishi prance across the mottled Kiri-wood surface of this Momoyama to early Edo period Koro in gold and silver maki-e and mother of pearl inlay. A copper insert contains the fragrant incense ash. There is a hand forged iron staple top and bottom of one ancient crack testament to age. It likely once had a silver hoya (cover) which has disappeared over the centuries...

Measuring approximately 5 3/8 inches in length, 4 3/4 inches in width, and 2 3/8" in depth, this wonderful, ceramic, Wide-Smiling Mammy Wall Pocket was made in Japan, circa 1940-50's.

Coloring is quite brilliant, and the condition is very fine with appropriate age-related crazing and some tiny, circular, firing imperfections on Mammy's polka dotted scarf as noted in photos. Please note that white marks are flash reflections, not imperfections...

Measuring nearly 8 inches tall, this fabulous Mammy walker toy is constructed of lithographed tin and was made by the Lindstrom Tool & Toy Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mammy is so marked on her backside!

This 1920-30's toy is the earlier version of the two Mammy walker toys produced by this company, and as one of the early tin African-American-themed toys, it is considered an important addition to any vintage toy collection representing this genre...

Measuring nearly 4.75 inches tall, this wonderfully rare, early 1920's, lithographed tin toy is unmarked.

The little boy shuffles along quite nicely via his original wind-up mechanism.

Over 80 years old, he is still quite sturdy as he was well made, but does show some superficial scratching from use over the years.

Of particular interest is the little boy's face which is highly exaggerated, a racist characterization that was unfortunately typical of the era when this toy was produced.

An Edo period suit of raw iron with all matching parts, featuring 16 plate helmet with two lame shikoro and large fukigaeshi. The mask is fantastic, a real stunner with dramatic features and a large mustache. It has five plate sode and a go-mai-do cuirass of five iron plates, with kusazuri of leather scales. The sangu are all matching, very nice on dark silk tightly woven iron scales, with a crest in brass on the back of the hands...

A terrific hand made sterling bracelet of squares by contemporary German born silversmith Agnes Seebass. She apprenticed in the Los Castillo workshop in Taxco and her work was represented in the William Spratling MAESTRO DE PLATA exhibit.
