I love early Mexico City pieces for their bold repousse further enhanced with deep oxidation and etching and the strong, primeval earthiness of their design. Crafted by mostly anonymous maestros in Mexico's capital in the opening decades of the 20th c., they pre-date their Taxco counterparts and seem to be on the rise among vintage Mexican silver lovers. This bracelet is a great example of the style - and I have recently seen a brooch in this design bearing Matilde Poulat's signature...

A mystery maker for me - though listed by Bille Hougart in his book on Mexican silver hallmarks (see p. 249) - it is Taller Taxco that signs this modernist pendant necklace, obviously based on a rather rare to find Salvador Teran design. Large and imposing, masterfully crafted, the pendant is shaped like a squatting pre-Colombian figure with his hands closed around a big, tumbled blue stone with green undertones and some matrix showing on the side (maybe blue chrysoprase?)...
