Spectacular design and execution in this sterling and turquoise ring by Santo Domingo silversmith Julian Lovato. He began working in 1938 and was a silversmith for Frank Patania Sr. in the Thunderbird Shop. This ring was made during his time working there. The ring is a size 9 and in fine original condition. Beautiful handmade vintage 1940's sterling silver, amethyst and turquoise necklace designed and signed by Mexico artist Matilde Poulat. Poulat signed her designs MATL. A Jizhou bowl was applied with dark brown nearing black glaze on the surface.
Characteristically and famously a leaf pattern was applied in the cavetto.
By greasy-feel quality belong to the Jizhou glaze, the surface was spread with subtle crackles which were caused by the age.
The body clay revealed at the bottom was in soft and loosening quality which was in line with the characteristics of the dated Jizhou wares...
