This is a tall and handsome black glazed Yuan dynasty (1277-1367) stoneware yuhuchun ping. The yuhuchun ping stand on a short splay foot rim rising up to a pear shaped body narrowing upwards to a long slender and elegantly waisted neck towards a everted trumpet like mouth. On the pear shaped body of the Yuhuchun Ping, it is painted with 2 set of symmetrical dark rust-brown floral sprays. A pottery whistle in the form of an unusual face with its lips puckered as if whistling. The top of the whistle has green and brown glazes (sansai glaze) - the bottom is unglazed. The glaze has a very fine crackle. Under magnification, tiny pits can be seen on the fine crackle, which is consistent with the appearance of glazes for pieces of this period.
