A young Maiko parts the curtains of an Okiya Tea-house entrance, perhaps on her way to training, or to begin a night of traditional entertainment through song and dance. Pigment and ink on silk in a fine brocade border with lacquered red wooden rollers. It is 25 x 78 inches (63.5 x 198 cm). There is some loss to the gofun in the center where it was obviously folded once before being mounted in its current state.

Trifari design patent number on the back of the brooch--#129320--reveals that the design was created in 1940, probably by Philippe for Trifari. It is a treasure, and oh so graceful in line. 4" long, 1 3/4" wide. Slightly convex, rhodium plated.

A Scottish sterling silver & amethyst engraved thistle pin brooch from Glasgow 1957. This finely decorated 1-3/4" brooch has ornate and fine hand engraving with a claw-set light purple amethyst stone on the high relief thistle. It weighs 13.7 grams, it has a full set of Glasgow 1957 hallmarks and the maker's mark WBs for Ward Brothers (this mark 1948-57). A charming and intriguing bracelet by Japanese designer and jeweler Miye Matsukada (1922-1981). She worked from her store on Newbury St. in Boston from 1950 until her death. With obvious design influence from her country of origin, there are five circular charms each with an applied design of a flower. The reverse of each charm is signed Janiye Japan Sterling 950 and initials as well as a date inscription ranging in years from 1948-1962...

Each earring is centered by a bezel set old-mine diamond and each diamond is surrounded by seven prong set natural rubies. The approximate total weight of the two diamonds is 0.25 Ct while the approximate total weight of all fourteen rubies is 0.70 Ct.
