This is a very old pre Spratling era Yalalag cross with it's original chain of a long 48 inches. Each cross on the chain is of thick silver. All of the beads on the chain are 9mm and hand made. The drop is 6in. long and the beads are much larger than the chains beads at 13mm. Again all the crosses on the drop are extremely thick silver and are also hand made. Pieces like this were normally not signed and this one is of no exception...

Rare, hand made and standing 4 3/4" tall this sterling silver and black onyx ostrich sculpture was designed and signed in the early 1950's by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling. Comprised of an egg shaped body of black onyx with white specks. The bird has applied detailed wings and tail feathers along with an intricately detailed face, head and ostrich neck. Puzzle like, precise, sterling and stone to stone inlay ring by contemporary jeweler Richard Chavez from the San Felipe Pueblo. Active since 1976, he is a master stone cutter and inlayer and the winner of numerous awards. This ring is about a size 4 1/2, hard to measure exactly since it is square in shape. A Yaozhou conical bowl was beautifully manufactured with printing motifs in the cavetto.
It was preserved in perfect condition only with whitish incursions caused from age.
Some fingernail's scars were left at the foot ring by the potters.
