A signature design for Margot de Taxco, the koi silver and amethyst clamper bracelet is a must-have for the dedicated collector and the lover of things beautiful alike. Executed in dramatic repoussage that looks more like sculpting because of its depth and the thick silver sheet used to craft it, Margot's original is far above and beyond all contemporary emulations be they signed by a known maker or anonymous. I leave the rest to the descriptive power of photography...

Last year I was lucky to find three examples of jewelry by Celia Harms, a talented designer who lived and worked in Vera Cruz in the 1950s and '60s. The Etruscan style sterling vermeil cross pin / pendant necklace I am presenting is the last of that trove and a very classy duo as well. I am very particular with vermeil - I don't really like it unless it is old and has mellowed almost to the point of ... extinction yet here it has an understated matte finish that exudes a calm warmth...

An amazing, bold and sculptural silver bracelet by Turun Hopea, Finland. We do not see many pieces of jewelry from Finland in the U.S. and this one is spectacular. The clasp is also most unusual.Measuring 8 1/2" end to end and 1 1/4" wide, it weighs 83 grams and is in fine original condition...

Designed for David Andersen by Bjorn Sigurd Ostern a vintage 1960s sterling silver and enamel pendant necklace with an original Andersen neck ring. This design is referred to as "Thor's Hammer" and in our case it comes in stunning shades of blue. I love the hand-hammered finish of the torque and the set's slick elegance. The pendant is just shy of 2" tall by 1 7/16" wide while the neck ring has an inner circumference of 15 5/8" (including the 7/8" gap; yet relatively adjustable)...

It’s been a while since I offered an example of Margot de Taxco’s zodiac jewelry and I am thrilled to be presenting this substantial Gemini pendant necklace here. Zodiac jewelry were popular with many Mexican maestros yet in my opinion, Margot’s creations surpass those of all her contemporaries. Sculptural, big and bold, they can be found as charms to be coupled with chain necklaces and enjoyed as pendants, like here, or dangling off the substantial bracelets she designed for that purpose...

This handmade pair of Tibetan boots was typically used by the Tibetan Minority groups for centuries. Each regional Tibetan group used its own distinct colored thread design pattern. Monks and officials also could be recognized by the thread design of their boots. These were a "commoners" boot and judging by their size, they were used by a young teenager. I suspect that they were only worn once or twice and they are in wonderful condition. Heel to toe they measure 9" and stand 12" high.

Shown in the Gobi Stromberg book "Silver Seduction : The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda", this book-piece design is a superb bracelet from Antonio Pineda. It's an extremely difficult design to produce, and it is most definitely a statement piece.

Composed of nine curved "V" links, each is tipped with two bezel-set turquoise cabochons. It's an unusual piece, and one which is very seldom seen. Closure is a tight and secure tongue in box, and when closed this has a seamless appe...

We are all familiar with Isidro Pina's Maricela book-piece brooches or his fabulous pin and earrings sets but how many times do we actually bump into a necklace bearing that signature? So you understand how thrilled I am to be presenting the necklace at hand - an absolute surrpise and breath-taking at that. But for its delicately elegant proportions, I would have expected this to be an Antonio piece or signed by one of the other modernists in Taxco. Yet here it is - bearing the proud Maricela...

Stunning Antonio Pineda Mexican modernist silver and black onyx necklace, this too is wrought in the maestro's favorite fine, .970 alloy in a variation of his "crescents" design. There isn't much one can say about Antonio jewelry, at least not more than a few good photos can say, but let me express my admiration for the magical way he articulates his creations so as to sit perfectly where they should and at the same time showcase the design's sculpturality in the best possible light. I have to a...

You don't have to be a warrior princess to wear this Sigi cuff yet you do need a certain sense of daring, don't you think? This is one of those pieces that illustrate in the best possible way Sigi's ability to seek out ancient motifs and forms and convey them anew through the eye of the modernist artist. The cuff fits perfectly around the wrist and the abstract overlay stands out against the oxidized background even though it has itself acquired a wonderful patina over the years. The bracelet h...
