Zenga style conical summer teabowl with a attractive Jun glaze over stoneware with calligraphy on the exterior of the bowl; SEI DAI JI and then in a column, DAI Chawan (great chawan). This chawan was made at the Seidaiji temple and is reminiscent of earlier Chinese temmoku and yuteki chawan in form with a Jun glaze that has a visually soft and appealing appearance.

This chawan is stamped as well as signed and is in fine condition with out a box and measures 5.5" x 2.5".

A fantastic Tea Bowl by rising star Furutani Kazuya enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Chawan. Ash-glaze blasted with fire color of foggy green and yellow shizen yu glaze, shell props on the side, allowing us a view into the firing as it lay on its side in the kiln, the molten ash building up on the opposite side and following gravity down in streams. A sumptuous work exploiting the best Shigaraki pottery has to offer...

A relatively new term, “Oni Tamba” is used to describe works of Tamba-ware fired using carbon trap and ash glazing techniques modeled after those pioneered by Tsukigata Nahiko in the 1950’s. This piece in particular displays a bold and innovative ceramic landscape that seems quite impressive for such a young artist as Onishi. One side of the bowl resembles charred igneous rock while the front shows a warm soft orangish glow—like an ember in a fireplace...

An austere form calling to mind the strictness of form and years of practice required to master the way of tea by Sugimoto Sadamitsu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled simply Kuro Chawan. Beyond, that dark charring fades out to charcoal black color and lively textures, one can imagine the beauty of staring into the bowl at the vibrant, frothy drink.

This remarkable tea bowl is from the kilns of Yoshida Shuen (1940-1987)—an apprentice of Miwa Kyusetsu (1910-2012) who was awarded the status of Living National Treasure in 1983. It features a milky translucent glaze somewhat resembling coral, with a few small portions of the foot of the tea bowl exposed, displaying the reddish coarse clay that this piece is fashioned from.

Hagi-yaki has a tradition stretching back over 400 years and is a high-fired stoneware type of pottery. Hag...
