This doll was made with things at hand and with a simple hand drawn pencil face. She has short folky arms with stitched defined fingers. She is stuffed with rag and straw and cotton. She crinkles a bit when squeezed here and there. She is as found in her mustard colored make-do old calico dress. It is sewn closed so I am not going to take it off. Her head may have been recovered at some point but this covering is old, She is jointed at the shoulders and hips so she sits nicely...

Antique wooden doll, possibly was a bed wrench converted into a doll or a bed post doll. She is pine and primitively carved and from the early 1800's. She is wearing a later dress but still a 19th C. one. She has no arms and never did and might be the reason she was made into a doll. She has some holes on one leg, see picture but they don't look like worm holes to me they are more of a shallow hole. She is 14" tall, circa 1830 and a great early primitive doll.
This is a homemade Raggedy Andy in his original. He is in good shape but his clothes have some holes and rips, and stains but nothing that is falling off. He has some stains that comes with his job. He is 16" tall but is a small doll, his head measures just a little over 3" across. His pants are a sturdy blue felt, and his cotton striped pinky/orange shirt a few tears on one sleeve. He is a little wonderful creature. C. 1920

This dear little black doll came right out of a house in Tennessee. She has the best thread hair, embroidered face, button eyes, pinched raised nose and lots of little and not so little mends on her face. She has a painted red mouth that can be seen if you look carefully, it is really faded. I have made the mends more visible by lightening the closeup picture but in regular light, they are hardly noticeable. She is firmly stuffed with cotton, jointed at the shoulders and legs...

Sometimes dolls look like they don't want to be wearing fufu but something tells me this doll loves the bow in her hair and bustle on the back of her skirt. She looks like she is all hand sewn, she had material for hair but the mohair is all worn off so it is a nice tan fabric sewn on around her face and covering the back of her head...
Sometimes a doll can be appreciated for the marvel of the maker and the caretakers of a doll. She has had loving hands restore her body more than once with really skilled hands. Her body is fashioned like a leather body but there is no leather under this doll's layers of jersey, cotton, linen and maybe a little wool. Her body is so interesting that she would look good exhibited without clothes. She is very firmly stuffed with rags. Her simplistic face is adorable with bead eyes a protruding nose...
This rag doll has the gift of giving comfort just by looking at her. She is a little soft, her dress has been on her forever and has wear here and there. Under her dress she is wearing undies that look original. She is all hand sewn with fairly big stitches but sewn really nicely. Her legs are large and sturdy with feet that point east and west. No big or even little boo boos other than a little hole at her mouth. Maybe too much kissing or maybe the act of feeding a little porridge now and then....
She is 16" tall, dressed for the coldest of weather, her Mommy made sure she would be warm and now she looks lost. She is almost as wide as she is tall. The clothes are all original, the coat is nicely made and completely lined. Under the coat is a brown dress with a woven in pattern and undies to match. Her eyes are shoe buttons and her nose and mouth are one stitch each that are pulled in. She is just the cutest! There is wear to the first layer of stockinette on her cheek and the top of her h...

This very nice hand-carved wooden doll and some original paint on the face and shoulders. She has a very round head, deep-set eyes and a nose carved and protruding but still out of the one piece of wood. Her legs were inset and pegged in place. Now she is a wonderful fragment 10" tall and mounted on a professional frame. (There are a few very old worm holes, please see close-up picture.) Circa 1800-1830.
This is a very interesting doll. Her body and head are one piece of solid wood, with a hole straight through the shoulder from side to side with arms pushed in an anchored on either side. The legs, I am not sure how they are attached and the pants over her legs are sewn on and have been for a long time, see stains from the wood on the white tightly woven pants, they feel very secure. She has on a period dress that I think I put on her a long time ago with the apron over it. Her painted face is ...
This is a nice antique cloth doll with a sweet embroidered face. She has blue eyes with eyelashes all the way around and pink floss mouth. It is a surprise that her face does not show any anger or humiliation from the extreme hairdo. I can just see the little girl with her mother's pointy scissors clipping all her hair with great satisfaction. She was a blond and there is a small fringe that frames her face and then rows of stitches on the back of her head that at one time was securing yarn hair...
Antique cloth doll with ink drawn face and hair, a body that is all original and dressed in a period dress, pantaloons and blouse. The wild hand knit red and white wool socks are a surprise but I can picture a little girl putting them on her and thinking they look grand. This is the way I bought her so I have left them on as a talking point I guess... She is jointed at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. The clothes are sewn on but it feels like her arms have been replaced. The only part of her a...
A sweet little rag stuffed doll with a suggestion of a face. She has on aearly blue and white dress, not original but my guess it has been on her a long time. She is C. 1880-90 and 11" tall with the dress adding another inch or two.

Here face is hard to read, her eyes are big round buttons, her nose is one with her eyebrows, her mouth is a V turned upside down, and two circles on either side of her head for ears. She is big and rag stuffed heavy, (I love that). On the top of her head is a braided top knot in the shape of a donut. She is 28" tall, all original except her her clothes that are old and look good on her. So many cloth dolls, all made with cloth and some imagination, can be so different and look so wonderful C. ...
A wonderful plain and simple antique black doll doorstop. This one is smaller than most and is made with a weighted can rather than a bottle. She is 10" tall and is just the right size to sit on a shelf or be used as a bookend. I like it when the stocking shows nice wear on the bottom and this one really does. See photo. She is great folk art! Circa 1920

What a cutie of a simple rag doll with embroidered face, broad chest and arms that ends in little fists. Now I think he is a little boy but his blue striped pants have a little lace trim so maybe a little girl. I do know that the mother that made him wanted to make sure the hat stayed on or maybe she picked it up one too many times off the floor and sewed the sucker on! It worked it is still there. He is firmly packed with rags and is solid and heavy. This is just a really pleasing little doll....
A very interesting Beecher type black cloth doll with flirty eyes. Before you get really excited about a rare Beecher doll, I think that someone did this later on. Usually there is a piece of shell or white cardboard on either side of the shoe button eye and this is embroidered with white floss on the right sides of her eyes. It could be original but I kind of think not. Anyway, the eyes are old, not newly done by the looks of them and it is very enticing. It makes her very cute. Her body is all...

A black stockinette doll with a great face and gray astrakhan hair. She is a single layer stockinette (stocking) doll when most often they are doubled layer as the maker realizes the white cotton showing through the one layer is not really black anymore but gray. This was cleverly handled by making her hair gray also. She is big and has a chunky body firmly stuffed. Her arms and legs are jointed so she sits easily. She has mitten hands with one that goes at a rakish tilt but her sweet face says ...
What do you think, I think she was maybe made with big round eye glasses for an adorable little girl who had glasses just like these? Not only does she wear glasses but this is a second face under this one. I am not even tempted to peek, this one is so great. She also has a replaced arm that has leather below the elbow. She is firmly packed with rags, her arms are jointed and her legs are continuous and she can do a forced sit. Her dress is antique but not original, under her dress she is wearin...

Nice homemade linen boy doll with embroidered face, cute ears, black curly hair wearing a red one piece outfit with a sweater over it. The red wool suit is sewn on with I think was a good idea by this mother. He wouldn't still have it on right now if she hadn't. It is brimmed with velvet ribbon and the neck and on the homemade belt around his waist. He has woolen shoes on his feet that are also attached. Over this he has a charcoal wool sweater that keeps him warm. It has a hole in one sleeve bu...
This is a very special black doll. She is 16" tall, is rag stuffed and heavy. She has woeful stitched face with small pearl button eyes. Her arms are jointed but her legs are not but she sits really easily. She is wearing an old red wool dress with lace at the bodice and trim around the neck and hem. She is sewn in but you can see she is wearing a fine knit onesie underneath. She has little recovered hands, someone cared enough to cover them. She has holes, the dress has holes, she is amazing. ...

This wonderful topsy turvey is in almost original condition. I don't think she was played with or handled that much but is definitely old and right. Both faces are done by the same hand. The are very nicely done in a very direct manner by an unskilled hand that really was good. The white doll has a bonnet and a blouse and a soft pink cotton skirt. The black doll has on a blouse and a red checked skirt. The two heads are 14" from head to head and the skirts are just a 1/2" longer. This is a very ...
